Welcome.

Firstly a lot of the major engine issues revolved around the 2L diesels. The 3L models are a different fish.

I use that term jovially, because there are a few recurring faults and issues with most D5, the most common seems to be leaking windscreens and the potential knock on effects with wet electronics.

A wander through the faults and fixes section of this forum may give you things to discuss with the vendor and check with 3rd...

view forum post
Well well well.
Having a tidy up in my shed a few weeks back.
I also came across an old relic from the past. One of the air jacks Alex posted. Group buy. Never used it. Just more junk in storage.

Also Viair compressor....again never use!!

Those group buys for bargains weren't much of a bargain after all.🤣😂😂🤣

Genuinely don't know the answer to that question. They perhaps do, upon inspection maybe. But sounds more likely that you'd end up with a third-party warranty.

I'm sure they are also decent, I've just sat waiting for my car to be serviced too many times and heard the faff that a third party warranty causes in the service dept., as they don't have the same knowledge of it, how it works, and what it's going to cover, which has always put me off. With the LR warranty (which is...

view forum post
_________________
MY23.5 D5 3.0 MHEV Metropolitan Edition – Santorini Black – Ebony Windsor Leather – 21” Style 5025 gloss black wheels – 21” full size spare tyre – Black roof rails – Black side mouldings - Williams Ceramic Coat. Plenty to read on here, but I'd just say, the horror stories on here show one side of the picture, and there's plenty of people who don't come on forums and post, who've not suffered the same experiences.

I don't want to curse myself, but on my second D5 (been driving them since 2018), and the 3.0 litre diesel engines I've had both times have been solid. I wouldn't buy or want to own a car with the smaller diesel engine, as my bro-in-law...

view forum post
_________________
MY23.5 D5 3.0 MHEV Metropolitan Edition – Santorini Black – Ebony Windsor Leather – 21” Style 5025 gloss black wheels – 21” full size spare tyre – Black roof rails – Black side mouldings - Williams Ceramic Coat. Hi folks in the research stage of considering a Disco5. Wouldn’t be my first Land Rover I had a S3 swb back in 1987/88 and have liked Land Rover over many years. Currently driving a xc60 but want something bigger and that can also tow our caravan. Yes it’s just on the inside of the boot aperture, only accessible with the boot open.
This is the trim piece off the car.
It is just clipped in but might need a bit of a tug to remove.

There is route out in the rear behind the boot closing panel.
The plastic trim pulls off and there is grommet behind it.
If you remove the boot interior trim behind the battery you can then feed a cable up through the grommet.
It is a bit awkward to feed through but there is a route.
You can then route it around the tailgate opening and up to the roof through, or behind, the roof gutter trim.
Hope this helps.

I mentioned the airbag light due to Moles nice link on the potential airbag issue / recall. Why wouldnt i mention it. ITS AN AIRBAG!

Had they rang me and said theres no concerns with the Airbag issue in the 'recall' but we beleive it could be linked to a poor connection under the seats, do you want us to have a look at x cost, i would have said yes pending the actual cost!

view forum post

Anyone installed an amateur band radio in the d5? I've an Icom unit I want to put in. Obviously the power is no issue with the battery in the back, but how do you get the antenna cable out? Years ago I used a glass mount for 2m but I want to run a 10m antennal on the roofrack. Short of drilling a hole in the body I can't see an easy way to get it thorugh from the inside as it is chunky coax. Any ideas/solutions would be very welcome.
I've used titan ones on the past few cars and they are designed for side airbags. Are waterproof and last for years. The ones in my A class are now 15 and I'd probably replace them if the car was likely to last much longer! I've had them on all of my discoveries and others and the only issue is them failing to allow for the seatbelt mount on the seat - this means a little but of stanly knife surgery to allow it to sit well but is easly fixed up with either stiches or velcro.

Sorry, I don’t particularly like main dealers, they are expensive rip off merchants, but if you didn’t want it attended to, why mention it?

You won’t catch them out twice with that one. That’s any goodwill gone.

view forum post
Interesting trip to the garage to wrap this page up.

Booked it in for security update. and mentioned the Airbag light,

Security update done.
1. The Airbag Light.
They stripped both front seats out and improved the airbag connector with a resin / gel. Fault code removed.

The oil looked worse than it was. There is a light coating inside the pipe and throttle body. The AA guy said it was normal.
As for why the pipe blew off, the only thing i can think of is that the O ring was flat. So i presume it wasn't holding the fitting tight. Why the clip didn't hold i don't know.

view forum post

late 2018 SDV6 HSE LUX 101250 miles. Driving from Wednesbury to Telford for a weekend event on Friday night. Around 30 mile trip, got around 3 miles from the Telford turning off the M54, and went to overtake. So indicated kicked the box down a gear and the car started kangarooing. The revs redlined and it held onto the gear it was in. Restricted performance lit up on the dash, so i immediately took my foot off the accelerator and while it was...

view forum post
Weren't MY 2020+ cars involved as part of the airbag safety recall? It was all discussed over on this thread.

Since the airbag isn't covered by your warranty, it might be worth checking it out or pressuring your LR dealership on the issue. If your car is indeed covered by the JLR safety recall, in the process of rectifying that issue,...

view forum post
It doesn't sound like you are having much luck at the moment but hopefully it won't be anything serious.
For the airbag fault these can be related to some of the plugs under the front seats not connecting properly.
Had either of the seats been moved prior to the light coming on?
It would be worth unplugging and re-seating any plugs under the seats just to rule it out first.
Just disconnect the battery first so there is no chance of the airbags deploying.
