Most car batteries will need replacing if they're 5 or more years old...like everything, they have an effective operating life regardless of the actual mileage on the vehicle. 3 to 5 years is about average across most brands...and most AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries that are compatible with single battery auto stop/start operation will come with that length of time reflected in a guarantee or warranty.

When chosing a replacement battery, the 2 important numbers to...

view forum post
No problem.
I’ve gotta be honest here, I hadn’t noticed the slightly jerky ride until it was cured and had become accustomed to driving with an amber TPMS light on the dash. I can only conclude that a long slow change becomes accepted as normal until it suddenly disappears and you find yourself looking/waiting for it to occur, as for the amber light, that was obvious immediately.
Oddly, I often kept the old battery topped up via the CTek and even at 100% charge, the TPMS...

view forum post
The strange thing is that I too experienced a similar step change in behaviour / performance when I had the free security update. I doubt it was the security update itself that effected the change but the required update of the cars software, which had been neglected for the last 3 years.

It felt like a new car. Calmer and yet more responsive. A refreshing greater pleasure to drive.

It was suggested by more knowledgeable people than I, that it could have...

view forum post
I honestly can’t explain why the spare tyre suddenly started to report the correct pressure. It’s possible that changing the battery caused some sort of hard reset so that’s something that may be worthwhile doing before splashing out on a replacement battery.

I too, thought the tyre pressure sensor in the spare wheel was paggered and had considered getting it sorted under warranty before it ran out, I guess I don’t need to bother now.

The difference...

view forum post
That’s interesting re the spare warning light. I’ve had that annoyance for the last year or more. Tried rotating the tyre to no avail. I assumed it was the TPMS in the tyre that had “failed” and was considering getting it changed at the next service.

Don’t understand how changing the battery (which presumably only offers the potential for higher voltage/current) should impact the tyre warning or the jerkiness in driving? However my wife says my driving is jerky...

view forum post
As a footnote to this thread, I had suspected my battery as being a bit goosed since I bought the D5 just over 12 months ago. I’d become used to its driving habits but after changing the battery it’s like driving a different car. Gone is the constant warning that the spare tyre is low on pressure ( it never has been ) and the car drives much smoother with the jerkiness I’d become accustomed to, also gone.
Whilst changing the battery I also took the time to unplug the awful...

view forum post
