I just bought crossbars for my Disco5
I do have the full lenght rails.
Here the problems:
1- The crossbars are way to high! The car will grow up so much and you risk not to enter in garage doors!
2- They are so high that the roof boxes become like a tower and there is a wide gap between the roof and the box.
3- the roof rails are about 2 meters long, but they only provide ONE position for the cross bars!! There are small holes in the rails and you cannot move the bars in another position. Also, if you make new holes, the crossbars will not fit new positions because they cannot adjust in lenght!!
4- The standard position of the roof bars is centered and just 75cm between the bars. If you want to carry a long kayak or surfboard, it will be very unstable because the straps will be just at the center of them.
Have you got any ideas on how to fix this problem?
It seems like Thule is not yet providing bars for disco5.
Our's is going into the dealer on Friday to have them fitted and the accompanying rood rails just before we head away for half term.
The plan is to put the bikes on the roof allowing us to still tow. However its going to be a last minute scramble to see if I can get the bikes and carriers all fitted in time.
The roof bars are a huge concern for me and i spent some time at the dealers not long back looking at them. Because my boot is always full we permanently have the roof bars on the D4 along with a ladder and most of the time the roof box is on too. The D5 with a roof rack is quite ridiculous both aesthetically and practically. The D4 looks cool with bars and with a box on.
I emailed landrover asking if they are going to release an expo rack and haven't had a response. If you look at the red cross Drone D5 it has the makings of a much better design

Gosh! That is a quite a large space between the roof and the cross bars!
They also look rather narrow too. There doesn't appear to be much space available for mounting gear to them. I'm hoping to get 4 bikes mounted up there! Luckily 2 are only small kids bikes but the trouble with kids is they keep getting bigger! Which means bigger bikes..
Hopefully there will be 3rd party (Thule etc) that will be supplying alternatives in due course.. There maybe alternatives that may already fit but just haven't been tested. Does anyone know if any other JLR vehicle has roof rails like on the D5?
I would be interested to know the difference roof to top of roof bars for the D5 and D4 with factory roof rails and roof bars as the gap looks similar to be honest

The height of the D4 cross bars was already too much (in my opinion).
The new bars are at least 2.5cm higher. I have both in my garage...
