    park heating quick question please

    Hi
tried a search but no joy.
Is park heating an option on the 2ltr diesel? If so is it a simple job to turn the facility on (like it is with the D4) if it was not specified at the factory)?

The FBH is an extra cost option. Unlike the D4, the D5 doesn't have one as standard.

If the option wasn't specified when the car was built, you'd need to fit the FBH from scratch with all associated pipework and electrics.

On my standard 2.0L HSE I can use the 'Remote' app on my smart phone to start the engine (doors stay locked) and set the time period and target temperature of the cabin. May use a little more fuel but probably works much more quickly and efficiently getting the cabin warm than a FBH.

I had a FBH on my MY16 D4 and wasn't that impressed with it in terms of getting the cabin up to a reasonable temperature.

Fully agree - a FBH to me would be a complete waste of time. It was never that efficient in the D4, but the remote app on the D5 actually makes my car toasty by the time I go to jump in. And it’s standard fit on the model I bought...

I have the Park Heat on my D5 and it is the absolute dogs nads and worth the extra money as an option,
I use it every day and the car is toasty warm 😁
Never use the remote option to start the engine as I feel this may attribute to the oil contamination issue having your car Idle for half an hour when I can use a far more efficient method which in the end is better for the engine !
Just my opinion and not all will agree with me 😉

    Hi SharkyShark
I read your thread and it appears that there are two types of Park Heat. The one you dont like runs the engine, What does your prefered method use (D3/4 FBH)?

    I agree.
The FBH is a great option.
I use mine for probably 6 months of the year.
Loved it on the D4 and couldn’t imagine the D5 without it. Much prefer it to faffing around with the remote app start.
Car is warm every morning at 7am
    Love it.

Would be great if the heated seats and steering wheel could be fired up from the app as part of the remote start!

the FBH is great, uses considerably less diesel than starting the engine and leaving it to idle whilst cold, has the car all defrosted and warm within 10 mins. Whilst the engine is cold is when it suffers the most wear and idling takes ages for the engine to actually warm up properly.

Only downside, is you have to program it like your central heating unless you're within a couple of hundred metres of the car when you can use the small remote that comes with it. shame it is not included in the app so can be set from there.

Having said that, if I am on a train thats later than planned or shopping etc, I do occasionally use the remote start to heat or in summer cool the cabin.
