Euro Ncap result
Not great to hear............
The Land Rover Discovery scored highly enough to merit a five-star rating, but not without problems. In the frontal offset test, the driver airbag bottomed out owing to insufficient pressure and, in the side barrier test, the driver’s door became unlatched.
Euro NCAP’s Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen, said, “Jaguar Land Rover has an ambitious programme of new model releases in the coming years. We hope that this challenging schedule and tight development times do not compromise the safety of the vehicles offered, and we hope that they will take our findings onboard”.
When I'm not in the operating theatre, I'm mountain biking, spending time with my family, running and socialising. I have a Discovery 5 HSE Lux with pretty much every option ticked. This is my first ever Land Rover. Been a rocky road with regards to reliability but we're getting there.

The current D4 only has 4 stars.

The D3 was 4 stars too and that was designed 15 years ago. I would have expected the D5 to get 5 stars which it has but without the negative points they raise. The fact they have gone out of their way to comment about it in a press release is a bit disappointing.

I would think solving the fact the airbag bottoms out should be relatively easy to fix - it would appear that there either wasn't enough gas generated in the first place meaning the bag didn't reach maximum inflation, or the holes in the bag are too big allowing deflation to occur too quickly. Doors unlatching... may be a bit more difficult to deal with. Looking at the video, the door doesn't actually open but appears to get caught on the second latch position

Anyone know what the AEB system avoided crash is about? (Near the end of video)

Had it on my DS, thankfully never got to see if it worked.
