    DEF - confused

Hi. Just brought a 2019 New Zealand new TD6 SE.

There is no DEF / Adblue fill/tank and I have checked the instrument panel menu and nothing there as well.

Is it only for certain markets?

Correct, as in some markets fuel quality is not as in EU and Euro6 or similar regulations can not be met and are not applicable anyway, so no ‘need’ for adblue, but your exhaust fumes are polluting more of course.

    Thanks Labbix.

So without DEF does that mean the DPF is likely to need regeneration more often if vehicle is often used for small trips. Is there a way to manually force a regeneration if you happen to be on a motorway or where exhaust temperature is optimal for regeneration.

It should do it by itself, but by manually keeping the rpm of the engine quite high for a while, you reach higher temperature and soot will likely burn of as well. Or half an hour highway traffic or using the S in city driving instead of the D to drive can help as well. But I wouldn’t worry too much as the car will warn when necessary and start the process (on my other cars I get a yellow symbol/message if the process is going on, but not sure for the D5, as I never saw something similar). Since 6 months I do mainly short distances and never got a message.

My other car does not have adblue, but does have a dpf and after months of using it for maximum 3 km a day (worst you can do for a diesel) I only once had the message of DPF cleaning
