Td6: "No Restart in XXXmi, Incorrect DEF Quality" error
Business road trip from Colorado Springs to Albuquerque, took the new Disco to get some miles on it for break-in, and driving is just as fast as flying after plane changes and whatnot.
Just as I'm arriving in ABQ, I get an error message that says "No restart in 236 miles. Incorrect DEF Quality," with an indicated fill of 30% remaining. At this point I had a total of 1,558 miles on the clock. Luckily my pre-purchase research of the Td6 motor revealed this isn't uncommon in US Rangies and RRS's, but figured they'd have worked this out at the factory or PDI for the Disco. Guess not.
Called the local dealer, was in/out in one day with a software reflash, drain/fill, and smoke test of the DEF tank for leaks. They even scrounged a loaner on a busy day.
Resolution:
- performed leak test using smoke equipment
- reset SCR monitor via diagnostics
- Applied Tech Bulletin LTB01084, Updated PCM software
- quality tested DEF in tank (no notes on results)
- drained and refilled DEF tank
- 3 Mile road test - 3 fault codes returned
- performed long road test (15 miles) and codes cleared.
happened to mine after about 800km. At least 50k road test after probably the same fixes, it has been as sweet as a nut ever since. Although still waiting for LR Assist to cough up the cost a rental car

Well its been nearly three years since I had the DEF restart warning, now I have just go it. With all the local dealers shut it may be a while before this gets fixe

How many litres of DEF are you putting in? In general i wait til the 2000miles warning appears, add 10L which takes it tp a range of 7500. Usually get a bit less than that expectation depending upon amount of towing usually fill 3x a year. 2020 it seems i am likely to get a good 8 months from a fill on basis car is doing about 4miles a week to the supermarket!
Even if I fill it to the brim I only get about 5,500 miles, and that range will decrease rapidly with more / longer road trips. I usually add 2.5 gallons (about 9.5 liters) at a time once my warning gets to about 500 miles remaining and then let the dealer top it off when I take it in for its service.
Definitely, my 2017 Td6 does quite a few short trips then the odd long one, is on target for 16000 miles between services and overall does about 400-450 miles per litre of adblue. Drops to about 350miles per litre when towing the caravan.
