Trailer Light Power
My first kook up of my caravan to my 2018 Disco, was very confusing, everything fine, but brake lights did not work at all. I checked both car and caravan all was good, it was only after talking with the caravan manufacturer I discovered there is a maximum power output for each circuit. the Brake light circuit is a max of 60 watts, I have 4 21w brake lights plus a high level bar.
The solution is replacing the 4 caravan lamps with LED equivalents.
I imagine some trailers have side indicators that will exceed the load allowance.
See,

just a little help I hope.

I don't have a problem with mine (what make is your van) obviously that doesn't help you. Have you tried removing a couple of lamps to reduce the load and to prove that is the issue. Clearly introducing LED's will reduce the load but may effect the bulb monitoring system.
good luck.

Thanks all checks done, my van is a 2018 Vanmaster V580. It has 4 21watt brakelights olus the high level bar across the centre back, very likely 95watts in total.
I am not aware the Discovery 5 has any bulb check facitility other than for the trailer on connection. As this only works with the ignition off there will be no computer check on lamps.
I was writing to help others who may find the issue.

MY20 seems to have the same issue.
Works fine on my brothers older car, but when hooked up to the Disco 5, the brake lights flicker once then do not operate again.
Can you guys tell me if swapping to LEDs did the trick?
I will try this tomorrow and see for myself.

Hi,
Its a Bailey Pegasus.
Seems likely that this is the problem but I just wanted to check before I get some LED lamps.

OK,
So yes, LED bulbs fix the problem.
They are difficult to remove though.
