Be interesting to hear what you think of the Defender compared to the D5.

Morning all…
So…. After a 12h drive (1100km!!), I am back home with the defender.
Here are a few small comments (pics will come later)
It drives very nicely. Very similar to the D5, but seating position is more upright and you can see the bonnet more than in the D5.
Since it has electric power steering, I noticed that there are more “vibrations” fed back in to the steering than on the D5.
Also, the front suspension does. It actually feel as “solid” or “heavy” as my d5.
Size-wise…. Although the two cars are about the same length, I found that the Def feels longer than the D5
Engines….
Not a fair comparison because my D5 has the old TDV6, but it can still keep up with the Ingenium 6 cylinder petrol.
The i6 is smoother and quieter but I still love the tdv6.
I was very impressed with the fuel efficiency of the i6…. It managed 9.5l/100km (29mpg for uk people) which I felt was actually impressive for a new car with a brand new engine.
I can get better with my D5 tdv6, but I was still impressed.
Interior…
Both vehicles are supremely comfortable!!
I found the D5 slightly more comfortable for the long trip, but my wife found the Def better.
Ride quality…
Def handles corners better than my D5 since my D5 is a 2017 model and doesn’t have the adaptive dynamic suspension, but the Def does…
But… the D5 seemed to be more planted and sure-footed.
This could be due to have better tires on the D5 (Duratracs vs standard All-weather tires in the Def)
Road noise…
Defender is quieter. This is partly due to tires!!! Partly due to Petrol va Diesel engine, but BOTH of them are REALY quiet on the motorway!!
On a side note, I test-drive the Grenadier last week, and while it was really impressive (especially considering it is could suspension) I feel that the D5 and Def are a significant step above the Grenadier.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask and I will answer as best I can!!
I will end by saying… my D5 is NOT going… I am keeping it as long as possible!! BOTH D5 and Def will stay as long as them are working/can be repaired!!
