  Bonnet lettering

  Just bought a 17 plate D5 , The Discovery Letters on the bonnet is missing the 'I'and so I bought the proper LR part complete with stencil and thought I would just replace the 'I' which would be easy to locate, but then I realised someone has obviously replaced all the lettering before and got it wrong in that the letter don't follow the curve of the bonnet and now that I have seen it I can't un see it !!!
  The trouble is most of the guides show you placing the stencil over the old letters prior to removal so as to know where to place the new ones, unfortunetly I don't have that luxury and so is there an official guide somewhere on how to place the stencil, I see there is a little square cut out of the bottom and wondered if this is significant to placement ?
  My only alternative option is to go and measure someones elses disco
