Advice
Hi all
Looking for advice have discovery 5 2018 3.0l and engine as just failed 118k full Landrover history till 2022 the 2023 service was done by specialist plus had the cam belt etc done at same time owned since brand new present to myself been great car till now
What would chances be Landrover giving a contribution towards repair or would I be wasting my time with this
Just wanting advice as probably others had similar issue
Thanks

It won't hurt to ask, you'd have a better chance of a "goodwill" payment if all the services had been done by a main dealer but some people seem to get some sort of percentage offer.
The worst they can do is say no, so ask nicely and see what happens.
Was it the crank or something else?

To be honest just want to get it fixed sitting there arguing with Jlr for them to offer goodwill of 50% especially with Landrover costs waste of time as there not going to cover full cost no chance

You're probably right that they won't cover anywhere near the full cost for an out of warranty vehicle but for the amount of money involved, even a 20% contribution is worth having if you can get it.
Given that it costs you nothing to ask except your time, I'd certainly at least see what their first response is.

“Done by a specialist” suggests your later servicing wasn’t main dealer. If that’s correct, then I doubt JLR will contribute anything,
Even with discounted JLR prices you may be better off getting your specialist to do the work. My local independent LandRover specialist has labour rates 35% of what main dealer charges.

As previously mentioned by others, you're umlikely to get any joy from JLR and if you were lucky and did, then any perceived discount given would still mean a cost consideranbly more than an indy. I would suggest trawling quality breakers for a low mileage engine, there's probably plenty around and have your 'speciallist' install it.

There’s a LR Facebook group. It just doesn’t concentrate on the 2lt D5, but on other variants as there seems to be an increasing number of 3lt having engine problem as time wears.
They have a huge membership - 7,500 and a lot of hard luck stories combined with a change of attitude by LR, I’d say given the age, mileage etc. it’s very unlikely LR will make any contribution.

Have you approached the Land Rover specialist you used for the service in 2023 (when in 2023 was that) to see if they are prepared to look at it and potentially do the work?
I would suspect that not every Land Rover specialist will be willing to take on the work because of the amount of effort required and the tying up of facilities. However, there will be other Land Rover specialists who will be specialists in reparing engines/fitting replacement engines, it is a matter of finding out who they are.
The big question is how serious is the engine failure, can the engine be rebuilt or is the only economic approach to replace the engine with a new engine or second hand engine.
