Jacking up a D5 with fixed side steps
I see that the mounting brackets for the fixed side steps VPLRP0530 have an opening that allows the scissor jack to make contact with the regular jacking points...
What is the preferred way of lifting a corner with a 3T trolley jack?
Or perhaps I should dig out the old bottle jack that I previously used with my old D4...

I just jack mine up on the bracket mounts where the steps bolt onto the original jacking points. Jacking it up is usually so I can get some proper axle stands under it to pop a wheel off for brake maintenance etc.
If you're worried about damage, place a bit of wood on the trolley jack cup before lifting...the wood will prevent any chipping of the paint on the brackets, it also prevents any slippage.

Thanks - I'll try a bit of soft wood under the bracket. The paint on those brackets is already flaking off at 7yrs old...

Aye, the finish isn't that good on the brackets, mine were the same. I took them off, sand blasted them and had them powder coated...I also replaced the mounting bolts with stainless ones.
