How much to pay to cam belt change

    MY19 dirty diesel 40k miles

I know it may be a bit son but I need peace of mind so gonna get the belt changed.

how much should I be paying at a reputable indie. Ball park?

Would I do / change anything else during the works too?

    many thanks

I only have a ballpark figure since I replaced the cam belts on mine myself but I'd suggest at a good indy garage around the £750-£1.5k mark.
Prices will vary wildly and you'd get a more accurate idea from someone who's had to pay to have the belts replaced at an indy 4x4 garage... rather than at a dealership. I'm lucky enough in that I have the skills and tools to DIY.

You may get cheaper quotes if you shop around, but the replacement parts alone (fuel timing belt, main cam belt, auxiliary belt and associated tensioners) can vary between £250-£400 on average...once you add labour and anciliary charges, since it's a lengthy job, you can roughly gauge the overall price.

I'd suggest also replacing the main camshaft pulleys along with the main timing belt as being good, cautionary practise although not entirely necessary...additionally around £120 or so for both pulleys.

As a firm requirement at higher mileages, It's not a cheap undertaking...and at only around 40k miles I'd suggest you have a bit of time before you'd have to seriously consider having it done.
110k miles or 84 months (7 years) is the recommended replacement interval...I replaced my belts at 75k because mine is a 2017 model which had 1 or 2 gaps in it's service history before I bought it last year.

My only other bit of advice, service it regularly and often and it'll look after you...oil and filter changes every 5k miles. The 10k service interval recommended by Land Rover is a piece of nonsense... Wink

I had my 2018 TDV6 (45000 miles) belts done as part of the 7 year service at a main dealer. With an MOT it was a shade over £2k. I'm still getting over it, but I have an extended warranty and want to keep full dealer service history, although I'm beginning to ask myself why. I just tell myself, it's cheaper than new car.

    Ouch! Shocked

Although from a main dealer + the MOT, not far off the norm unfortunately... Indy 4x4 garages will be a shade cheaper, but not enough that your wallet won't have PTSD after paying for it Neutral

As for me, I'm this D5's final owner... unless it does the Land Rover thing and spontaneously explodes into a pile of bits, so warranties or service stamps in the logbook are entirely irrelevant. It's bought and paid for and it's highly unlikely it'll ever be sold on. (mind you, I said that about my D4).

With that in mind, I have a nice workshop full of tools, spare parts are relatively inexpensive so it'll be well pampered in my care since as a self confessed Discovery fan boy, I'm kinda fussy about keeping it working the way it's supposed to.

had mine done on due date by JAS nr York, less than £1500 using genuine parts, plus new camshaft gears ( it is well known that originals can spontaneously give up with catastrophic results! )logged on JLR to maintain warranty.Dealer wanted over double!!! Apparently tensioner was about to part company so did it just in time.

    JAS

I'd not heard of JAS, but I live near Beverley so they are very handy for me. Thanks for mentioning them, I will be contacting them when my next service comes around.

Unfortunately they are NOT near me, otherwise I would be entrusting them with all the sevricing, warranty work etc on my Disco, But as they were half the price of local dealer, it was well worth the day off and the journey. If you have chance, look them up on facebook some of the work they do is unbeleivable and if you watch his videos on PICO diagnostics, its amazing, I understand he even built defenders for James Bond film.

Thanks for the info - appreciated.
Am now considering extending the warranty for further 3 years from next March which would inc belt changes and a whole lot more inc MOT insurance. Trouble is the cost is £4k but can be paid interest free.

Wow, that's a great price. If I had come across an indy close to me that would have done both belts for that price...considering the cost of parts alone...I'd have let them do mine instead of getting my hands dirty Laughing
