    Security Update

    Hi there New here on D5 Forum but been on Disco 4 and Defender for years, I have just purchased a third hand D5 good Land Rover service history how can i tell if the security upgrade has been done or not.
    Once I get my Gap II updated I intend to turn lazy lock unlock off anyway.

    First off, welcome to the dark side Thumbs Up

    If you want to disable the lazy lock, you don't need your IID tool to turn it off or on....You can do all that by sitting in the car, ignition off but drivers door open, press the headlight button on the keyfob 3 times in succession then press the lock button on the fob to enable or the unlock button to disable the keyless entry. (Same as on the D4)

    Be aware that disabling keyless entry also disables the gesture tailgate function if you have it...just to save you melting your Crocs on the exhaust trying to open the boot in Tesco's car park when you've got an armful of shopping bags Mr. Green

    This technique, 100% doesn’t work on mine.
    Is there anything else I can try other than a faraday pouch?

    After reading numerous threads around numerous forums it appears this little tip only works with the master key for your car. If this doesn’t work for you using your regular key, try the other key as swapping to the other key, did allow me to turn this feature off.
    As a word of note:
    When using the incorrect key, my hazards flashed after completing the sequence and it didn’t work.
    When using my other, correct key, the hazards did not flash after completing the sequence but it did work and the headlights flashed a few times to confirm.

    That's a point, I haven't tried it with my second key. I'll give it a go a bit later and see if I get the same result Thumbs Up

    I honestly believe keyless entry is a grave industry mistake now the system has been totally compromised.
    Now that thieves can hack around the keyless entry system by relaying your keys signal, the industry must look at why they invented this idea in the first place.

    For me, I’d rather press my remote to confirm opening but maybe I’m an old stick in the mud.🙄
    Not all technological advances are a good idea in my mind. Maybe they seem like a good idea until they get hacked.🤷🏻‍♂️

    In a side note, my neighbour recently received a package from Land Rover containing two batteries for his Full Fat remotes. They’re some sort of battery that stops working when not under motion presumably to prevent remote relay theft.

    Interesting note about those Relay theft prevention fob batteries...Saw them on Amazon...but they're expensive. £60 for one or £100 for a pair. I have heard that JLR can supply them free on request which might be worth pursuing. I've no idea if that's tied to a warranty, extended or otherwise.

    They just replace the standard CR2032 LR fob batteries but have a built in motion sensor sleep function like you mentioned. I don't really need one...but if I lived anywhere on mainland UK, they'd definitely be worth considering. They have overall poor reviews though due to only lasting up to 3 months before they need replaced.

    I only liked the keyless entry because of the gesture tailgate on the D5...so I can look like a proper knob melting my posh wellies on the exhaust outside the local island shop Laughing

    But...I'm lucky in that I live somewhere where all the dodgy folk don't...There's barely 500 permanent residents on this island...and we all know each other. I haven't taken the keys out of the cars or locked the house since we moved here many years ago...till the D5 of course, it doesn't like being left unlocked with the keys in it, plus the In Control remote start won't work unless it's locked and alarmed. Neutral

    Now my keys get chucked in the old Crawford's shortbread tin on the top of the kitchen bunker...which works pretty well as a Faraday cage...the spare set of keys, my missus keeps in her handbag which is a scan proof one and never far from her.
