    D5 D4 roof bars interchangeable???

Hi gents, recently added the D5 to my motors along from the D3 forum
As the subject says can the roof rail from my D3/D4 be used on the D5 rails ?

D3/4 roof rails work on a track system, D5’s don’t, they are a clamp on system.
Sadly the two are not compatible.

Hey Dazz, welcome to the dark side mate Wink

As Narpy said...you'll have to fork out for a new set of bars, practically nothing accessory wise from the D3/D4 cross fits onto the D5....

I really don't like the roofbar fitting system on the D5, I spent an hour standing on a box trying to line up the pins on the clamps with those little locating holes in the roof rails...probably why I've never taken the bars off again Laughing

Glad to hear somebody else struggled. What the hell is that “lever” all about?
In the end I loosened everything in sight and this gave me enough free play to align the pin + hole.
Utterly ridiculous idea, makes the D4 seem simple. Should be really straight forward but true to form, JLR have complicated it beyond belief.

Oh……btw, if you have to buy rails for your D5, don’t spend the stupid amount of money further buying parts you don’t need when you can mod your existing parts for minimal cost.

Had the car a week or so ago and it’s a lovely interior, drives nice and with abit of poke when you press not like the delayed reaction on the D3
Anyway I’m sure I’ve got some clamp kind bars from my wife’s old kuga I’ll have a look at them Thumbs Up

Still working on it today, I’m just about to start and put this pump on that I can hear the solenoid clicking

It’s getting to the stage of if I should keep throwing money at it
Last month was a new air pump, coolant , gearbox oil and filter and now I’ve done the lpfp and the possibility of a new Hpfp pump Big Cry just to sell it as we’ve now got the d5

I had to create an account on the D3/D4 forum to drop Martin a PM last week as this forum went down with an SSL error...

Since I posted on there on the D5-L462 thread (to get the 3 post requirement to PM Martin), I've been kinda viewed as a strange and exotic pet with a couple of D3/D4 regulars like Moo, AustinJMJ or Garry Stuart asking me all sorts of questions about the D5. It's been kinda fun Laughing

It's been nice for me too as a former D4 owner trawling through posts from folk with spanners taking their D3's and D4's to bits...a bit of nostalgia. It'll be nice when a few more folks start to do all that stuff on here with their D5's posting up threads with pics and asking/giving advice etc.

There's a few of us on this D5 forum who'll take spanners to the beasts, Narpy, me and a couple of others so it's always nice when someone else turns up who won't mind taking a D5 to bits when it needs it...every little bit helps Thumbs Up

Plus we have Narpy amongst us and if I remember correctly there was a while thread on Narpy’s Torch.
So, Narpy, what’s your latest recommended torch and I don't mean one costing £300…..

I won’t mind taking a spanner or 3 to this beast but it more needs must that affording to pay someone else to fix it for me 😂
I’ve already got the workshop manual on a thumb drive Thumbs Up
If anyone needs it I do t know how to send it other that a hard copy to another thumb drive

Also I’ve just tried a standard set of clamping roof bars and they’re about 50mm small Big Cry to reach from one to another so they fitted a ford kuga (SWMBO ) old motor
Find a set for £100 on the net that will fit

I was lucky that a nice chap from this forum who had shifted his D5 on had a set for sale really cheap...I love bargain garage sale stuff Wink

I would have had his roofrack as well but I'm a bit geographically challenged up here in the frozen north, it would have been an expedition to go pick it up. The roof bars were easy and cheap enough to ship up via courier though...

Well……..you’re really winding the clock back with that question, that original post was 12 years ago.😂
I recommended a particular model to one poster and it kinda went forum viral as others dashed out to order one and review their purchase. It was very bright and very cheap for the era.

Interestingly, I do have a new torch, it was minimal cost ( £25 or so ), it’s truly incredible and easily lights up tree tops like it’s broad daylight.
I’ll find the details and post them here so you can update your torch owning fetish.

    ++Update++
Here you go, get yourself one of these, it is blindingly bright, and prepare to be mega impressed.
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C7ZZDXX9?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

It’s fully rechargeable via USB so you don’t need a separate charging dock and has a percentage readout to assist ensuring you keep it fully topped up. I think you’ll like it, it is unbelievably bright.
    That’ll feed your torch fetish.😬

Good grief...viral torch fetish buying, that's pretty awesome...if a bit creepy and cultish Bow down

I bought a £20 fancy rechargeable torch on Amazon because I'm too lazy to get the stepladder out and put a £1.50 bulb in the light above my back door Rolling Eyes

We don't have any street lights up here on our rock, the nearest ones are 35 miles away in Kirkwall on the main island...In summer, it doesn't get dark at all so it's not an issue. However, in the winter with only 4 or 5 hours of daylight, it's pretty dark so everyone has a cupboard in the kitchen full of torches and batteries...helps during the persistent power cuts too as you blunder your way across the yard in freezing rain to start the genny up.

Spring and autumn equinoxes...we get nature's light pollution to save everyone's torch batteries Cool

Torches are definitely a “bloke” thing, women would never understand nor appreciate the essential torch requirements.

I’ve gotta say though, the one I’ve linked to is a beauty, well made and blindingly bright. Gotta hold my hands up here, Mrs Narpy discovered the latest torch, not myself. If you’re on a budget but still appreciate a quality purchase, look no further.😬
That one comes with a little “torch-ette” that really comes in handy in the D5 centre cubby too.

So…………what you waiting for………..you know you need one.😂

    Ooo, sold!

Definitely a bloke thing though...put shiny buttons, flashing lights or pics of boobs on it and chaps will just get the wallets out Surprised

As for the subtleties of torch buying...After 2 years of the yard being a black hole in winter, Mrs Mole has taken to leaving the stepladder out with that £1.50 light bulb gaffer taped to them Neutral

    Edit:
I just got a shout through from the living room. Mrs Mole had been on Amazon perusing duvet covers or something equally uninteresting, so she spotted the snazzy torch purchase...

I blamed it on you... Whistle
