Not a day to be out playing...even in a Land Rover. We don't usually get much snow up here being surrounded by the sea. Most of the roads on the island have been blocked with drifts of up to 6 feet in the 50mph winds for the last 3 days with no sign of it letting up for a week or so according to the met office.
I am north of Inverness. It’s perfectly fine tbh. I always maintain it’s not the car but the driver that’s important in challenging weather.
Had to run SWMBO into work at Raigmore in the early hours as she has an emergency coming in, but that was before the roads were gritted. At least I got Tesco to myself afterwards.
Daughter is stranded at the boyfriends parents home, but that’s near Braemar, who have got it worse.🙄
Worst of all the snow up here is that besides the road being blocked to our local ferry port, Kirkwall on Mainland was shut off with the roads to the short hop ferry ports at St Margarets hope and Stromness being blocked. Besides having to re-route delivery trucks via Aberdeen to Kirkwall as a stop gap, Tesco and Lidl deliveries weren't getting in...consequently, none of the outer island shops have any of the staples on the shelves, no milk, bread etc.
Earliest deliveries to our island shop will be Wednesday evening...hopefully, assuming the blizzards and snow let up a bit. Luckily enough, some of us farmers on the island have a milking cow here and there and bake our own bread so all is not lost. As usual, the honesty boxes at the end of the farm roads are being topped up with milk, bread, fresh veg and eggs every day and those of us with the bigger tractors are clearing the drifts off the roads so folk can get out...or delivering essentials in 4WD's to the old folks and families stuck up farm tracks.
The usual highlands and islands winter logistics in force.
