How much is the three year warranty costing you?

My HSE has been in for warranty work 4 times in the past 9 months. Each time, I have to drive a round trip of 40 miles, borrow a loan car which then also has to do the same round trip and in which my dealer asks me to replace the used fuel. Then there's the road testing - often 30 miles.

All in all, I have estimated that these visits have cost me over £100. I made this point to the dealer and they said that they would see what compensation could be arranged (beware low flying pigs!).

So, I was wondering if others were counting the cost of allowing JLR to put right the items that shouldn't need putting right if the appropriate quality control was in place.

Personally, I think that there should be penalty clauses in the purchase contract that awards the user compensation automatically when warranty issues arise. That would focus the minds at JLR rather than the "let's see what we can get away with" attitude.

On the other hand, I wonder how the dealer feels when they have to do work that might be paid for by Land Rover, at a low labour rate (specified by Land Rover) and still have to provide (and possibly insure) a loan car, only then to have the customer look for compensation too.

Land Rover and their are normally very accepting of complaints being turned into instant warranty claims; I’d hate to see anything that would put an obstacle in the way of that.

Try running (even an upmarket) Ford for a while and see how vigorously warranty claims can be turned away! Rolling Eyes

I got £150 from LR about 10 years ago for being out of pocket whilst my D3 was in having a new engine fitted. Enterprise (through LR Assist) wouldn’t insure me on the loan D3, I was 22 at the time, which meant I had to use my own insurance which incurred admin charges, only £75 in total but gave the £150 as goodwill.

Other than that I’ve never really had much reason to be compensated, it’s part of owning a car, things go wrong regardless of the brand.
