So I've been scratching my head over the Secure Tracker Pro 12month (£180) vs 36month (£710) subscription and trying to understand if it would be cheaper buying 3yrs upfront. There is no transparency on subscription post initial term on the LR website and the dealers don't seem to know. From my experience you usually do get a discount paying upfront for subscription services.
I managed to get the following info from the LR online live chat:
Secure Tracker (includes Pro)
1 year is £260
2 years is £416
By my calculations, it is actually cheaper to not pay for 36months upfront (£180+£416=£596).
So I raised this with JLR and spoke to the head of online sales who investiaged this for me and was extremely helpful. She found out there will be new subscription pricing coming in soon as follows:
Even based on these new prices, its still cheaper to not buy 36months up front (£180+£456=£636) which she admitted. Apparently there won't be any new build price changes for the MY22 so this is the most cost efficient approach!
Incidentally, these are the prices for the other options (i'm not interested in either of these but may be useful to others):
£596 was based on the £180 option to fit a Secure Tracker Pro with a new build (inc 12 months subscription) + 2 years subsequent subscription at £416. However with the new pricing for Secure Tracker Pro that is actually £636 for 3 years as mentioned below.
I think Secure Tracker Pro is new and its adds a tracking component in yours keys so if the car is started without the keys nearby, it alarms. This can only be specified at build time and can't be upgraded. To quote JLR:
Secure Tracker Pro integrates cutting-edge authentication technology into your Land Rover key fob to alert our Stolen Vehicle Tracking Centre if your vehicle is moved using unauthorised keys.
These seem to be the options. Although the car believes differently in relation to dates. Thing is I don’t know what I need to maintain the status quo or even if I need it?
For use of the app (lock, windows etc), you only need the cheapest one.
For tracking (secure), if you want, or need for theft insurance, you pay the second.
For map updates and traffic updates, you need the one on the right.
For 3 years cheaper, but check as I read some times 3x one year is cheaper..
My screenshot (2019 year car) is same as Darras above. Clicking on each one summarises what they do. Looks like to be able to start the car remotely, which is nice in Winter, will need remote premium.
