Number Plate Retention
The new online system is brilliant. I went online at around 1400hrs today and I had all the required documents back in seconds. I've been out and bought the new plates and they're fitted - its 1620hrs.

New V5 and Retention document will come in the post in 2-3 working days. Another bonus was that when I info'd my insurers (Privilege) they didn't make a charge for the admin of changing the details.

I should perhaps look at taking my plate off, want to drive it first to make sure it's the car for me.

J77,
You might have to bite the bullet if your car is due.
The Dealer needs the V778 (Retention Document ) or the Certificate of Entitlement to register your new car straight onto your plate.
He'll also need the V5C for your car on it's new plate which, in my experience is the longest wait, before he'll take it off your hands.
He can use AFRL and give it a '17 plate and you can "transfer on' later, after you get your new cars V5C though.
I went through this in March for my RRS.
One tip - as soon as you sign over your car-especially if it's near the end of the month, use the on-line service to transfer it to the Dealer, instead of using the yellow slip, you might not lose (another) months tax that way as DVLA don't have to wait for the post!

It's due end of March.
My salesmans away to drive it tomorrow, I will look into it next week, I've got some time off. When I picked up the D4 in September 2015 my salesman man done everything, the D4 came out on its private reg.
I suppose there's no harm in putting it on retention as I will either take the D5 or a used RRS2 possibly FFRR.
