    frozen fuel filter

We run 30 vans up to 14 years old, an hgv and a couple of cars in our fleet plus of course a Disco5 with 24k on the clock (and 3 services under its belt already plus a combined time in the garage for faults of about 5 weeks in the last year)>

Guess which was the only vehicle to go into limp mode when we had a bit of snow at the end of feb?
Not even on one of the really cold days either..........

Luckily we have a 16 year old Jimny to go to the rescue in.

How did/are you sorting the problem? Was it a dealer trip?

Sure was, replacement fuel filter....................they thought that they might charge me but the service advisor warned them not to try.
    Very annoying nevertheless!

Strange that, I also live in Kent and had no such issues, despite mine being out in a very cold wind chill. Did they say why the fuel filter had frozen, was it a dealer in Ashford/ Canterbury?

I am near Tonbridge and it is looked after (!) at Lancaster.

They said that they had had three cars in that day with the same thing?

Odd they had a cluster, mine has sat out at minus 25c for extended periods lower if you factor wind chill and so far no problems. Pretty sure there is no separate NA spec?

Sounds like water got into the fuel, and the water separator in the fuel filter filled up, so when it froze, it restricted fuel flow?

You should probably buy your diesel from a different place - especially since it sounds like a local problem based on the three other copies in at the same time. They may have a bad tank that's allowing water to get in.

Water is heavier than diesel fuel, but it can get temporarily emulsified in the fuel from additives or if they have just filled the in-ground tank (it gets all stirred up). Diesel tanks in cars have a low point that's below the intake for the fuel where the water will (is supposed to...) settle, and that may periodically need to be flushed, or additives added to emulsify it in the fuel so it gets burned off.

Every time you change your oil, you're supposed to drain the fuel filter water trap also.

That's one benefit of where I live - in winter, the relative humidity is usually well below 20%.

Your fuel is probably prepped for the conditions.

No, we don't get winter blend here - but our humidity is so low we don't have to worry about water in the fuel system anyway. We do get gelling problems during really cold blasts, however.
