    Rear Bumper Removal ?

    Hi all,
I’ve recently ordered a D5 but without the tow bar and was going to fit it myself after delivery and was looking at the accessories fitting instructions and you have to remove the bumper to fit the beam assy so I was wondering if anyone has had the bumper off and if so can you give me some pointers ?

    Thanks in anticipation

Remove both rear wheels, release rear part of wheel arch liners to access a fixing.
Remove lower tailgate aperture plastic trims for access to fog lamps.
Remove one fixing per side and remove fogs.
Remove 4 fixings from underside of bumper (2 per side).
Remove 2 outer fixings (1 per side)
Release wheel arch trim by bumper edge to allow removal.
Release bumper sides (held by 4 clips, each side)
Release aperture seal on bottom edge to expose bumper edge
    Pull bumper rearward to release.
    Disconnect electrical connectors.
    Remove bumper!

Or get access to Topix (workshop manual).

    Good luck.

@sharkysharks, did you get this done?

I'm in exactly the same situation and want to avoid spending with a dealer / workshop.

No at the end of the day with the cost of the towbar and then having the stealers to enable it it was just worthwhile them doing the whole job Confused

So are you saying you bought a car with a towbar, or that you handed the car to a main dealer to fit everything?

I was under the impression that if you use OEM wiring harness or somesuch, you didn't need LR to code anything.

Which towbar did you get in the end?

Hi Drrick I went for the multi height towbar which the dealers fitted and enabled when the car arrived

Got this over the removable one as I can modify it to accommodate my NATO hitch so I can tow the Sankey Thumbs Up

    Sounds like a sensible approach.

What did the LR-Stealers need to enable if they were using OEM kit? From my D4 mods, when I retrofitted OEM wiring it 'just worked' with no enabling required.

Yours also shows the 'cutout' needed for the electrics. From what I can see online (which is limited in terms of illustrations, I wouldn't need that for the detachable towbar.

Rimmer Bros seem to be quite reasonably priced too, and being near the in-laws I can collect from there.

On the removable one there is no cut out and no panel to remove
The electrics fold down from the right as you look at the back of the car

So are you saying that I won't need a replacement cover?

I spoke to Duckworths (better price than Rimmer Bros), and they've told me I need a replacement cover.

    #moreconfused.

No I believe you need a replacement cover as it has a slight bulge to allow for bracket but you don’t need to remove it once it is fitted.
