I am looking to have some installed as I need to ferry grand kids about, I ‘m a little worried about insurance and how it effects the commercial status of vehicle, can you give me more of an idea of what’s involved as I don’t want something to happen and find out I’m not insured or get a tax bill. Everywhere I look seems to lead to it been a grey area.

These people install a temporary folding bulkhead seat. It doesn't affect the taxation class of the vehicle. They are good people and will explain to you.

that looks neat!
you definitely not letting insurance know?
This appears to be a bit of a grey are when i investigated. Sure there's some Case Studies of successful prosecution from HMRC knocking about?
I'd love to do it ...

I had these in my D4 Comm. But when I checked for the D5 I found that the rules had very significantly changed to the point that I didn’t think installing rear seats could ever be HMRC compliant option e.g. just fitting rear seat belts make it no longer a commercial. But I would love to learn that I’m wrong?

How did you find out the rules had changed? I have a compliance letter from HMRC but it is date 2015. Atlantechs assure me nothing has changed in design / purpose of the seat so the letter is still current.

I was thinking the same. I will try to find the link. I’m wondering if I was reading the rules that a manufacturer has to follow, which may differ in effect from an owner subsequently converting it. But I do remember a raft of changes, such as must not be possible to refit OEM seats, must be no location points for seatbelts, windows must not be recommissionable etc etc
