    Steering Loose

    Hi Guys,

In a Disco 5 at the moment, if you give the steering wheel a little left and right is there a bit of play in yours?

When I move this steering wheel its loose and has some play. Is that normal on the Disco?

    Thanks

I mean the steering whilst driving seems to work well.

I notice it more when the vehicle is going slowly or when I do it at standstill.

If you move your wheel left or right is there some "play" before it actually does something?

    Hard to describe really.

It is but only so you could hear the noise better, does the same thing with the engine on.

Is the steering not supposed to feel that loose? Feels firmer when moving.

    Are MY17 cars EPAS?

Well mine is exactly the same, I have just tried it with the engine off.

It is not something I normally do, I do not recall any noise when actually driving as opposed to shaking the wheel like a lunatic when stopped! Rolling with laughter

The video shows how to unlock the steering column lock in the days when we used keys to start a car. Maybe it is normal? I'll check mine later.

Mine doesn't do that, With engine off wheel will rotate clockwise/anticlockwise but only a small amount and movement is 'cushioned' as movement is prevented, with engine on power steering pump assists complete movement in either direction, No clunking.

Ah well, whatever assistance it uses, there's no clunking.
