13 pin towing electrics
Having bought an approved Used D5 in December, this week I connected the caravan to it for the first time. It has a factory fitted electrically deployable tow bar including 13 pin electrics. On connecting up and switching on the ignition the caravan side lights came on, even though the car lights were switched off.
I do not think this should happen, as far as I know pins 5 and 7 that power trailer side lights should only be live if the vehicle lights are switched on either manually or automatically, if you have auto lights fitted. DLRs should not cause trailer lights to be activated.
Are my recollections correct? And has anyone else had this problem?

Yorkietiger, on D5, the daytime running lights illuminate the rear lights on the car and when you connect up a trailer, the trailer running lights also come on.

I confirm that behaviour. Trailer lights are always on with the DRLs.
It was the same in my Jaguar I had before. I am sure it’s meant to be like that.

Can I just ask whether the electrically deployable towball has any suitable fixing place for the brake away cable? ( as opposed to looping it around the tow ball). I am having one fitted next week and not seen one deployed yet.

Yes... It has a small ring to clip the brake away cable through. It is on the left hand side of the tow hutch.

however, if you have the older break away cable, chances are the clip won't fit through the loop and it shouldn't just be clipped to the loop since the clips are not strong enough and would not pull on the brakes, only the newer cables with the caribina work in that way. (I am looking to change the cable in the next few weeks for that very reason since mine will only loop over the ball which doesn't seem the most secure thing to do)
