Ctek battery charger
Hi
Where is the best position to connect a Ctek charger on a MY2019 D5, I understand that post MY2018 the permanent live on the 13 pin tow bar is now switched off as the vehicle goes to sleep?
Any thoughts

I plug mine into the tow socket on an MY18 with factory fit electricaly deployable. It works fine.
Alternatively follow the LR instructions and connect direct to the battery internally.

Just don’t trap the mains lead in the boot catch...!

Hi Jon,
could i just use crocodile clips as opposed to buying a JLR Ctek charger ? i have a Ctek i use for my other older car and i could just pull the battery panel off and use the same charger and crocodile clips that come with it.... surely that will be ok ?

You can buy a ctek panel mount socket. This has fused wires and can be securely fixed to the terminals as per the JLR unit.
Personally I would only use croc clips as a last resort as they can work lose easily and create sparks or a short. The gel filled batteries shouldn’t be venting hydrogen gas in the same way old lead acids did, but I would still suggest a permanent fix is less risky.
If you are doing occasional recharge and the tow socket option isn’t working, you could use the jumper terminals under the bonnet? That’s got to be easier than refitting that awkward panel over the battery.

HI Jon,
no tow socket on mine..
it would only be occasional as twice a year I'm over seas for 40 days at a go and the other half wont drive it unless I'm about for some reason, so if i can use the jumper terminals that may work, I'll also look at the Ctek mount socket on line.
cheers.

Worked with no issues for three years

Hi all
When you connect the CTEK does it ever go up to number 8 ? Mine stops on 7. Been like that for days.

I think that’s quite normal. The battery is effectively charged at that point and a small trickle charge keeps it there.
The final stage is more for long term storage where a continual trickle charge would actually damage the battery in the long term. The final stage is a pulsed version of the trickle charge so only kicks in as needed. I seem to recall that it’s about 10days before it switches to stage 8.
