2019 Discovery SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

    Transmission vibration

Car first reg on 15/7/20 and to me as pre-reg deal on 21/7/20.

22/7/20 reported annoying vibration through steering, and often through seats too to the dealer.

Waited few weeks for dealer to take into workshop. Techs drove it and said was ok! Needed car for hols so took it away - covered 1500mls approximately and vibration appeared to worsen.

Booked appointment, in itself a major feat! Went out with head technician and he agreed that there was a problem. He mentioned that they had another car in during late 2019 with same problem and never got to bottom of it. (My car is an April 2019 build). Service assistant asked me to book another appointment for 3 weeks later to “see what they could do”. Not happy, stood my ground and eventually left that day with Disco Sport loan car.

3 1/2 weeks with no updates unless I asked. Was asked in to test car as they had obtained LR Technical Advice, and had replaced a driveshaft, balanced a prop, and thought it was sorted. Drove it but found only very slight improvement. Asked to drive another same model and was as smooth as it should be so not just my obsession or imagination!

Asked dealership what now? Advised that as TA had been followed and customer not satisfied they would have to go back to LR to seek solutions as the last thing they want is me to reject the car. Possibility of replacement was mentioned by dealer, but would be up to LR.

Waited week and half with no update and when contacted dealer today advised that they were still following LR TA. Of course I know from the app that the car hasn’t moved since I drove it a week and a half ago! Asked for more info but no response beyond “we will be in touch when have an update” - Not good enough when talking about a £70k plus motor that I have not had use of for 5 weeks plus☹️

So, any advice or guidance on what direction to take with this? Should I contact LR direct? Will they speak to me? I believe rejection is an option as I raised the issue (by email) within a day of purchase, but a direct replacement would be my hope.

Thoughts please, particularly from any fellow owners who have encountered similar faults or experiences.

I would say that you are well within your rights to reject the car and ask for a replacement.

You can 100% reject this car. They have had a second attempt at fixing the same issues.

I did exactly this on my July 19 build/MY20 car. It turned out to be a sensor issue (completely different issue to yours).

Rejected in Jan 2020, I actually was able to run that car until the replacement was built and registered in July. PM me if you want more details.

Unless I'm getting the dates wrong, the car was sitting around for a long period of time before you had it? It's nothing daft like the tyres have flat spots? Perhaps they could swap the wheels over with another vehicle to test.

Immensely frustrating for you - sorry to hear!

That sounds like a great call to check on that, John.

Over a year, potentially in the same spot in the same compound, can’t do the tyres much good with 2.5 tonnes of Disco resting on them.

OP, I would, though, make that the last port of call before rejection.

Thanks for comments folks. Tyres all checked, rotated etc and not that but well suggested. Giving dealer another week and then off for legal advice ahead of rejection.

I’m still counting down the years, and it’s getting closer although another 20 years still to go. Well actually 19 years 8 months and 11 days. 😂

So, after 5 months of agony, and 13 weeks without my New Discovery, we went to dealer today and agreed to “trade in” for a new 2021 MY RRS D300 Silver Edition! With LR Assisted Vehicle Change and dealer discount this change is costing very little - but will I regret not waiting until March for a new Disco 5 - maybe!

Main driver for today’s action was realisation of potential price increases with a no deal Brexit looming. Mail shot received from a different LR dealer I had dealt with previously strongly suggested around 6.3% price increase if reg after 31 December.

I am happy - at least I think I am!

    Fuller story to follow 👍
