Disco 5 SD4 - Oil Dilution
Hi gents & ladies
I recently bought a MY19 SD4 Disco 5 HSE LUX. It is a great car but I have one quick question that I can't see has been cleared up or fully answered. Does the SD4 engine suffer from the significant oil dilution that seems to affect the V6 diesels as well as the DS 2 litre diesels?
I've been through quite a few posts on here but it's not clear (to me anyway
)
Many thanks

Thanks Whippetman, feeling much more confident now.
Does anyone know why the 2.0L D5 is not affected?

Don’t know!
But I have had a new engine fitted at 27,000 miles and just a few months within the LR extended warranty which fortunately was 2 years not the one year they give now.
Wouldn’t own one without LR warranty!
Lots of Jaguar also needing new engines and waiting for them to be built and then fitted

It’s to do with the way the engine is mounted.
With the engine mounted transversely, because of space restrictions, the DPF has to be too far along the exhaust to come up to temperature quickly enough and requires a lot more forced regenerations than with the longitudinally mounted engine in the D5. Forced regenerations lead to oil contamination.

Also worth noting, Td6 doesn't suffer oil dilution issues so long as its had the n241 software update (well it doesn't tell you any longer if it does suffer them lol)
