Ok I know maybe not the best move but local hand wash guys forced to close I went to the local supermarket soft auto car wash.
Horrified to loose the roof spoiler wrenched off its 5 securing bolts .
Quick trip to local garage who priced up parts and paint to over £600 plus VAT not including labour costs!
We all get told not their problem but this isn’t an aerial or rear blade..
Any advice as to consumers rights please!
I occasionally go through the whirligig soapy things when it's really crusty, figured something like this would only happen to poorly installed aftermarket bits. Wonder if there was something in there loose already for it to be ripped off like this???
Judging by the photo's, it really has been forced off, breaking that plastic lug area would require considerable force. I think you need assistance from JLR in determining just what force the rear spoiler is subjected to during their development process, I would be making a claim against the car wash operator as their machine should not be able to apply the forces required to do that damage.

Yes, my feelings are it got wedged under the rear spoiler and instead of backing off it carried on and forced its way upwards.
Have contacted them and they say they will respond within 7 days.
I do feel aggrieved at the force used.Spoiler is definitely factory fitted and to force the 5 bolts off like that and rip off the fittings the pressure was immense.
Won’t take this lying down as Small Claims is quite a simple process if they don’t want to settle.
Every business has reasonable duty for care to customers and can’t just deny negligence.
I would be going back to Tesco and speaking with them as well as the car wash is on their property and tokens issued by their petrol both.
On a more personal note I would not even take my 15 year old Hyundai through one of those car washes if you do you are asking for trouble to be honest.
If I was really desperate I would use the jet wash but not the car wash.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

I once took mine thru local car wash. There was a very ugly bang from the rear spoiler and I was sure it was off, but once out couldn’t see or feel any damage, but this post confirms my suspicion that something was snapped that day. I have a different D5 now, but wouldn’t risk another visit to a car wash.
Hence why mine has not been washed since early December when the hand car washes were open. It'll stay dirty until either a dealer visit or the hand car washes reopen....
