    Discovery no more????

    Just seen this email
It says six new models but no Discovery and nor even mentions. Does that mean the end of the Disco????

    REIMAGINING SUSTAINABLE LUXURY

Between 2020 and 2021, the number of Battery Electric Vehicles registered on UK roads has increased by more than 54%, with a 28% increase in Plug-In Hybrids and 40.2% and 26.5% increase in petrol and diesel Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicles respectively.

As the demand for lower emissions vehicles increases, Land Rover is proud to apply our expertise in innovative design, world-class engineering and advanced technologies to help write the next chapter of future mobility.

The journey to more sustainable luxury has already begun, with the introduction of Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) and Mild Hybrid (MHEV) powertrains across our range of SUVs. But our ambition is to take this further and set a new benchmark for sustainability. Over the next five years, Land Rover will welcome six all-electric variants, the first of which will arrive in 2024.

At the heart of our vision is a desire to support customers through a new era of vehicle ownership and deliver the best innovation and experience for drivers. With the opportunity to push the boundaries of performance and design on two highly capable and robust new architectures, the journey to electrification is an exciting next step.

In our Reimagining Sustainable Luxury email series, we will help you explore the suitability of different electric powertrains based on your needs and go into more depth on life with an EV including charging at home and on the go, as well as information on range, maintenance and upkeep.

COST BENEFITS OF OWNING AN ELECTRIFIED VEHICLE

Ready for anything, our range of Plug-In Hybrids and Mild Hybrids offer the perfect balance of Land Rover capability and enhanced efficiency. Our PHEVs deliver an all-electric range up to 34 miles* enough for a zero tailpipe emissions commute while offering an average fuel saving of £1,230 over three years compared to a petrol or diesel vehicle.^ But it’s not just cheaper daily running costs that leads to a lower cost of ownership. We’ve highlighted some of the top economic benefits of owning a PHEV or MHEV powertrain.

    SERVICING

All PHEV and MHEV powertrains come with regenerative braking capabilities which are gentler on brakes. This reduced wear and tear helps lower servicing costs across your ownership. It also means that energy normally lost during deceleration is collected and redeployed, helping to maximise range across your journey and reduce trips to the petrol station.

    CHARGING

Charging your PHEV is not only more convenient than visiting the petrol station but generally, the cost of electricity is less per mile compared to petrol and diesel. This can be reduced even further with an off-peak electricity tariff at home. And with the Government’s Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme providing up to £350† towards a professionally installed home charger, the savings can really add up.

    TAX REDUCTIONS

As a result of reduced tailpipe emissions, a number of the Land Rover PHEV models qualify for a zero First Year VED Rate, free parking in many cities and exemption from the TFL Congestion Charge until 24th October 2021.††

Wouldn’t be surprised. They now have a 7 seater Defender so why continue with a Disco?

Either way, the present line up of vehicles will basically disappear within 10 years to make way for electric.

2019 Discovery SDV6 HSE Lux Carpathian Grey

I’ve just spent 2 days in 5 seat 110. Beautiful, better in some ways, but tiny compared with a Disco. It would be a terribly uncompetitive 7 seater. Think they market it as a 5+2 even.

I suspect the email is reflective of no PHeV discovery, not no discovery at all. I can only think that LR somehow made the platform incompatible with the P400e. Kind of beggars belief. I’d imagine the third row is one reason and perhaps the spare is another? Maybe they could make a 5 seater PHEV D5, but that is niche. Although appreciate 5 seaters sell in other markets, in the UK it’s a family car.

buy that 2024 D300 Discovery and keep it for 5 years.....especially if you're planning on towing anything substantial more than 100 miles. By 2029 they may have invented an electric vehicle suitable for towing, they may not however.....

The Rivian is looking promising. Launching in the US in June with a towing capacity of 11,000lbs so just shy of 5 tonne for the pickup and 7,700lbs or 3.5 tonne for the SUV.
It can be done, and will be. To be honest I can't wait.
