Timing Chain replacement - know issue? 39k miles

Hi - had problems with my Disco MY17 2.0 HSE for a few months, on taking to the dealer now has multiple faults (trying to get codes) and needs new timing chain and VCT solenoid - some £4K of work and 2 weeks minimum off road with no replacement.

Fault means poor starting from cold, no power, gradually got worse over last 12 months or so.

Dealer has been very good and got me 80% covered by JLR as the warranty expired in March (although no one informed me, still under finance until this month)

Does anyone have any info on this fault? Only ever been main dealer services, 39k miles, owned from new although was per registered at dealer hence the warranty expiring 6 months before my 3 year finance deal.

    Any help appreciated.

Update: dealer repaired the timing chain and replaced VCT solenoid. However, on driving back from the dealer the car’s engine seized solid and had to be towed back.

This is likely turning out to be a much bigger problem so if any folk have more info on this that would be very helpful.

Interesting, I hadn’t seen this post. Sounds mega expensive tbh. The long term viability of the Disco 5 has to be at least questionable, too many people reporting things going wrong and it’s never been a car to own outside a warranty.

Needed new engine. JLR agreed to replace even though 6 months outside of 3 year warranty. Total cost £17k plus then the £2k timing chain. Dealer and JLR told me it was a “one off” gesture! Any more work and they would have written off the car. Refused to pay for any extra eg solenoid and timing chain £2k.

Last time I drove the car - pcp was up so just handed back the keys and it went straight to auction. Wouldn’t buy another one.
