    Ctek charger

Hi has anybody attempted to use a. Ctek type charger from the + - terminals in the engine bay?

I'm thinking as the battery is in the back, would/could this cause problems?

I had a couple vehicles with a remote battery and only a connection point under the hood (bonnet). One was a 2007 Toyota Prius and the other a 2009 Cadillac CTS-V. I used ctek type chargers at the connection points under the hood without any issues. The owners manual state those connection points are for boost starting from another vehicle so a ctek charger will be fine.

I have already done this and it works fine. However it would be much better if they were threaded to allow the connection of the plug in point rather than using crocodile clips.

    I have a CTEK MXS 10

I want to "rip" a few CDs onto my hard drive & have a try creating playlists etc.

Rather than have my engine running I intend to have my CTEK attached. Would the. "Supply" setting be preferable to the AGM charge setting?

I copied all my music to s USB stick and imported from there.

I was amazed how fast it moved 16GB onto the hard drive.

Is that USB 3 Jim ?

The CDs take about 10 minutes each.

I am not sure, my music was all in iTunes and I just copied the library to a USB stick.

Doing it that way do you still get the title track names & pictures?

Peter - if you can do this on a PC or Mac it would be a lot faster. As Jim said a regular USB stick copied over so quickly I assumed it failed. Once you have the ripped tracks you can reuse and in my case I just wholesale copied the music folder from iTunes as long as you don't have them encoded in AAC they should work fine and be free from any DRM issues.

My reasons for going down the CD route are sound quality & album art/ info.

Peter - you do get the art info and I would suggest even a freeware ripping app would give you finer control of the quality than you will get from the car (and I cannot imagine the optical drive is going to be better than a generic PC one). I would expect JLR just use an off the shelf commercial tool or even open source ripping tool anyway. All of the tagging will work including album art with the advantage you can tune the tags to aid navigation (use your own genres etc). The default navigation by artist looks pretty (a clone of Apple Cover Flow) but in a large library it isn't easy to find what you want.
You also have the option of using native Mp3s that have been professionally mastered, in my case with iTunes Match that Apple replaces on files you have ripped. You can also keep a local copy of your library and add/remove as you see fit rather than having to manage it in the car as the upload is fast.

I suspect it won't be that long that optical drives (in general) and especially in the car go the way of the compact cassette, never mind the 8 Track I am afraid.

Have a play, even iTunes would do the work for you.
