    V6 Typical Oil Consumption

Wondering what peoples typical oil consumption on the diesel V6 is?

Was a bit surprised to have to stick a whole litre in to bring it back up to max the other day. Admittedly I can’t remember exactly how long ago I last checked and filled it. Just checked it as I was topping up the adblue.

With my previous TDV6, never put any oil in between services and that did 17500 miles a year including at least 2000 miles towing. First year it had 3 oil changes at 5000 miles each due to flagging oil dilution, the following 2 lots of 16000 had no intermediate oil change or top up.
Current SDV6 only did 4500 miles in first year due to redundancy and lock down so can't comment on this one.

Yep, your TDV6 experience is what I would have expected, this is an SDV6, probably done about 5000 miles since it was last changed. Hence some surprise at 1L top-up. Will keep a bit of a closer eye on the level now and see if it drops. Hopefully not a sign of any issue brewing.

I never topped my SD6 up. It only got oil at the annual services.

My previous D4 I used to change the oil every six months and I rarely got much more than 5 litres of waste oil from the sump (they only hold 6 litres).
I never trusted the electronic dipstick.

this just made me go and check my Td6, probably hadn't looked at the display in months. I had the usual oil dilution issues initially so oil was changed at 6000, 12000 then 20,000. Since that been getting about 15000 miles between services and never topped it up. It is 4000 miles off of a service and about 75% at the moment, so guess I won't need to top it up before the 80k service is due.

I’ve topped up the D5 in between services, but not more than a litre.

Think the handbook says there’s 1.8lts between the bottom and top mark on the dip stick.

2017 Td6 - have never had to add oil.

I change my oil every 10,000 miles whether the car thinks it needs it or not. I have never had more than 3% fuel in oil, and that was in the first 15,000 miles. Since then FIO has been 1% or undetectable despite the vehicle thinking it needed an oil change.
