does anyone happen to know the equivalent smallest dimension at the bottom of the D5 load space Aperture like the red line I drew below? Need to know what size pallets i can forklift in thanks
Will you be able to load from a forklift? Won't the masts of the forklift foul on the tailgate? (It being one of the main reasons why even small / car derived vans come with barn rear doors).
Yes seems like sacrilege ruining a lovely interior like that.
You should see the state of my works transit van.
Brand new and the inside has been shredded with the forks from the forklift. Even though lined with plywood. Bumper has been split with the forks hitting it, not too mention wheel arches dented on both sides from the pallet been forced in as was slightly too wide. Floors been gouged as well due too the forks.
Hence the reason I ended up getting a trailer as at least if it's damaged it's a hell of a lot cheaper than repairing your Disco
Spending all that money on a car why not spend a few bob on a decent trailer then you have to worries or risk of damaging vehicle
Thanks for the measurements, we normally get the forks up onto the tailgate as far as we can then role the pallets on round bar then lash them down.
Ive got 3 trailers and use them as well
My cars cleaned every week and well looked after, believe or not looks like new when its done but it DOES get used a hell of a lot for loads and is what I am looking for the D5 to do too. Personally, i don't think its sacrilege no worse than off roading or expeditions. The D4 (even in the lux form) really holds up well to this kind of use and i don't see why the D5 wont.
I `permanently have the roof box on and either carrying live stock, dogs or steel, concrete and wood plus up muddy tracks working around the house. Its what the disco is for There are some challenges with the D5 i need to overcome ill admit i wont be able to carry steel like i do anymore because of the tailgate and the roof bars are ridiculously high too but I'm working my self around those issues. Main one at the moment getting a date for a HSE Lux in petrol out the dealer !
I am going to miss the Glass section of the tailgate not opening independantly of the tailgate. I have a toyota kluger atm. I have often had pieces of wood hanging out the back.
I do wish the D5 has this kind of arrangement. I always open the glass to pop things in the boot as opposed to open the whole door.

Very true RDR. The D4 is a workhorse. My mate went from a merc sprinter too a D4 commercial as it did not cut the mustard whilst towing with a fully loaded trailer. Mind you I think i will leave the offroading too the Defender as I would not be brave enough taking the D5 offroad especially on 22 inch alloys lol. Knowing my luck it would end up a disaster lol 😁
By the way thats a cracking pair of dogs thumbsup:
So how many sheep 🐑 you get into the Discos boot.??
I have seen FFRR full of sheep and even a camel in one
My Disco does have two lives, half the week doing the above then its cleaned and spends the other half in London mainly around Mayfair or Canary wharf which it does just as well as the tasks above. It never looks out of place and still gets a lot of looks
The D5 is going to be different and maybe not as flexible or practical but theres nothing I can do about that its the direction LR took which is fine I just need to see if i can work around it and one things for sure it wont be wrapped in cotton wool it will be expected to get stuck in straight away
Probably my biggest concern is my dogs and the space offered for them as we have three at the moment which just fit nicely in the d4..
Anyway looking forward to the new platform and especially the technology and Gadgets as i'm a total geek and the ancient tech of the D4 has been bugging me for at least the last 5 years!
