    Spare key help !

    Afternoon
    Trying to replace a misplaced spare key on a 2020 hse and the dealer has said I need a new control unit ( 800 quid ) as it’s been locked and a new key can’t be added without this .
    Has anyone has anything similar?
    This put the cost of a spare key at 2k !! This can’t be right can it ?
    Any feedback much appreciated

    As part of the anti theft improvements, JLR started locking the key control module at PDI circa 2018, affects all JLR products, once the module is locked new keys can't be added, afraid its a new module and keys ad pet dealer info.

    Keys

    Wow , so in order the buy a spare key they basically want 2k ?
    Surely there must be a way around this ?
    They quoted me 800 quid for a spare , not cheap but about what I expected
    Then they tell me the total cost will be 2k ?
    That’s a hell of a lot for a spare key , any way around this do you know ?

    Excuse my ignorance. So how does the activity key feature. I understand they can be added at a later date. I'm pretty sure someone on the forum had one fitted post build. Also weren't some people issued just the one key when they picked up their new cars? and received them later.

    I think brand new cars are only supplied with one key now , mine is a 2020
    But quite honestly 70k odd for a car you get one key with is a peetake in my book !

    Picked mine up a few weeks ago. 2 keys supplied. If you do a search you will see some were supplied with one key only but on the understanding that the 2nd key would come later.

    I got my second key a couple of weeks ago. Took the dealer about half an hour to pair it to my D5.
    Discovery 5 D300 Metropolitan.
