    Dash cam install

Hi can anyone point me to a decent ground point near the glovebox please, I’m trying to hardwire my dash camera in. I am using the fuse box for power, but no joy yet with an easy to get to earth.

Just above the glove box is a bolt that attaches the dasboard to the metal support frame behind it. That works as an earth.

Don’t suppose you took photos of the install? Would be keen to install one my self?

I simply used the aux socket plug of the Satnav and threaded it round the windscreen rubber and plastics to come in behind the top glove box which has an always on aux socket. Problem solved.

Don’t make a job more difficult that the simplest solution.

Hi, Do you mean aux socket of dash cam? Was it a genuine JLR dash cam? Thanks

Thanks, Like the idea of just plug to socket, Which model did you go for? Any reason for not using a JLR ? Thanks

It’s a DR750 , front and rear cameras. Blackvue are acknowledged as about the best and certainly one of the smallest footprints. Never had an ounce of trouble tbh. High quality HD images and Wi-Fi enabled.

They look good thanks. Did you just plug lead into power source in boot for rear camera? Do you know how much battery drain there is? Were going on holiday & the car will be left in a carpark for 2 wks, Don’t won't to get back to flat battery or camera hasn’t recorded for duration.

No, the rear camera power and video feed work off one small lead that plugs into the front dash cam. I simply ran the wire along the rubber roof lining.and via the rubber grommet at the top of the boot. It’s ever so simple.

No battery drain as the Black Vue goes to sleep and only wakes up when there is an “event” or you start the car, although I think that can be adjusted to on at all times if you want.

The other thing is if you are really worried about the possible battery drain, just pull the aux plug out.

Or install the Black Vue add-on power supplies, which charge when the car is in use.

Powerful do a dashcam piggyback harness that fits into the power feed in the roof console which gives you power feed, ignition feed and earth without having to wire anything else in.

They don't actually list it for the Disco5 but I have it fitted in my 2018 and works just fine.
