    Droning noise and poor acceleration

Under gentle acceleration, around 1500rpm, I get a vibrating, droning sound. This disappears at higher revs. If I hold the car at about 1,500rpm it continues. Revs are up and down during heavier acceleration and I feel car is struggling a little to pick up speed. 3.0L Diesel HSE. Any ideas?

Did you find out what this was?

I've noticed that sound, had it for years it doesn't seem to be getting worse, it's usually when crawling at low speed and revs (when you'd probably have changed down a gear in a manual). In slow moving traffic say 10-15mph with revs at about 1200 - then just accelerating very slightly but not enough to prompt a downshift. The service before last they changed the transfer box fluid and I did notice this sound seemed to stop for a couple of months, but then came back.

It did worry me at first but given it hasn't gotten worse or more frequent, and I don't have any performance related issues, I decided some time ago not to think about it. If it comes up and bothers me I just let off the accelerator, or add some more to prompt a gear change.

Similarly I had a feint rotational knock/rumble/groan from the front drivers side wheel area - which I only noticed when coming down some steep winding roads in the pyrenees - only on right hand corners (loading up passenger side front wheel). This was about 3 months after buying the car. I subsequently noticed it when going around fast-ish roundabouts. I mentioned it at the next service and they checked the bearings/CV joints and couldn't find evidence of a problem. At some point this just went away and I haven't heard it since (and have had two subsequent trips to Andorra up/down the pyrenees).

Think it's probably just one of those things. Despite these little niggles and the risk of the engine self destructing at any time - we like the discovery so much, and prices have dropped so much thanks to the insurance saga that my wife is considering getting an identical Disco for herself. I guess then I can see whether it makes the same noise in traffic.
