Discovery 6!
Spotted an article in Autocar, saying the next Discovery is going to be a clean sheet design based on Range Rover architecture.
Having read it I'm not entirely sure what the next generation will look like, but it does sound a lot more promising than some previous articles that suggested the big Discovery might not be replaced at all anytime soon.

If it looks anything like the generated image,, its absolutely hideous

Think the images are purely Autocar's work to jazz up the article with a couple of pictures. Doubt they are based on much more than speculation at this stage. The talk in the article of going in a MPV direction is not one that appeals to me though.

Interesting article... I'd say Autocar's own images can be uncannily accurate, so watch this space and who knows!
I'm not averse to the look, though any move to lower the ride height / driver's seating height of the current Discovery would be a significant downgrade and leave me looking at alternative options.
I remain staggered as to how sales can be so low of the current car - it is - to all intents & purposes - the most phenomenal vehicle. And versus a Defender 130, a heap load more attractive too.
I was shocked, spending two weeks in Italy this summer, how we never once saw a single Discovery 5 except the one we were driving. Every other JLR model, yes... my wife even questioned whether they offered the D5 for sale! No wonder I caught quite a few people looking at our car with interest! Probably wondered what it was...

I suspect JLR played down Discovery development plans while the Defender launch took place.
What better way to generate more Defender sales by allowing the suggestion the Discovery wasn’t being upgraded and effectively discouraging some D5 sales by removing features from new D5s?
There are many Discovery owners not wanting to go to the Defenders and unprepared to step up to RRovers….myself included. The Discovery has occupied a unique position thus far. It will be interesting to see if a D6 keeps that status.
If that is a good likeness, I don’t like the chopped down roof look. One of the most pleasing features of the Discovery models to me has always been the airy headroom. The cropped down slit windscreen and windows may be safer but is a step too far towards sitting in a bunker.

Latest I saw was that LR says the Disco needs to be sufficiently differentiated from Defender, with which it currently shares many mechanical similarities - and buyers are overwhelmingly choosing the Defender.
I love my D5 - as the Disco has always been, it's a superb compromise between the hard-edged Defender and a more luxe Range. But the New Defender has gone upmarket, leaving Discovery without a home in the market. If I had to replace mine today, I'd have a Defender 110.

I wouldn't change my D5 for Defender 110, firstly the rear tailgate access isn't wide enough and secondly the floor depth from door to step is too narrow, it would have to be a 130 for the floor depth but still access width is restricted, The trans K9 crate for the D5 is far too big for the Defender.

I just really don't like the Discovery's interior. Doesn't add anything over the D5. For space, I'd need a 130, and it's just an ugly duckling from the side profile. Just no, no way.

Don't get me wrong - my D5 Td6 (we never got the SDV6 in the US) is the perfect platform for me. It's spacious and comfortable with really long legs on the Interstate, and with just some 18" Compomotive wheels and decent AT tires it goes everywhere I'd ever want to go off-road. Since we can't get the D300 or D350 here I'll drive it until the wheels fall off.
BUT ... if a meteor fell out of the sky and smashed it to bits, I wouldn't replace it with the P300 MHEV that's available now - that's the only engine they're offering here for the D5. To get the P400, you have to go to the Defender. Nothing else really interests me on the market here except possibly a Rivian R1S. So - back against the wall, it would be a Defender 110 in some spec with the P400.
The 130 is too long for many off-road trails here in the Rocky Mountains, the 90 is just a bit too short to be practical.
If they keep the balance the current Discovery has with respect to comfort and capability in the D6 - and offer engine parity with the Defender - then I'd probably go with it over a Defender. But I don't see how they do that without cannibalizing Defender sales.
