    Brake rotor corrosion

I've just got my MY2019 back from servicing and MOT. The techs have sent me a photo of the rear face of the front brake rotors. Whilst the outside of the rotors are shiny and look as they should, the inside faces are pitted with rust. According to the Land Rover chap, "they do that"!! How, with the calipers pinching the rotors, can there be corrosion on one side of the rotor? Any ideas?

Definitely should not be, especially if you're driving it regularly.

If it sits for a long time, especially after driving in snow and salt/road de-icer, you can see corrosion, but it would not likely be isolated to one face of the rotor or one rotor.

Thanks, I agree it sounds odd. The brakes work perfectly but surely, they can only work properly with equal pressure on the rotor. If the brakes were faulty it would have shown up during the MOT.which was also passed today. BTW, they want nearly Β£2.5k to change the front pads and rotors!

I do not drive fast and furiously, but I’ve had all the rotors and pads changed twice on a 6 year old car that has done 50k. It seems like you get 3 years or 25k out of a set. Last time an independent charged me about Β£750.

My wife, who has a different marque, had had them once at 3 years and 25k, so I doubt it’s confined to LR.hers were Β£450, a big price difference,

Changed all my discs to vented drilled and grooved, with quality pads for fraction of that price.
