Engine cover mounting grommets
Anyone on the forum had to replace the acoustic engine cover mounting rubber grommet isolators? Went to my local parts department to be told you can't buy the grommets & have to buy a complete new cover with the rubbers installed £212.00 + VAT.
Has anyone managed to use or convert similar grommets available on fleeby?

And yet I went to my local dealship, possibly the same firm as the one you probably use, and got one for nothing.
That said, the cover is flimsy at best. I wouldn’t worry about one gromet tbh. Think there’s five off the top of my head.

Yeah 5 on mine, the one above the turbo is made from a different material creamy colour & has more or less disintegrated, 3 other small ones are pretty worn out & the covers rattling about. It might be worth trying another LR shop.

Strange, that one went on mine too in the latest engine replacement, in fact the whole elongated plastic holder bit too.
I did get onto the service manager, but everyone denies it’s them. I could push for it, but there could be bigger battles to fight, so keeping my powder dry.
If you buy new, it’s a silly price for a bit of plastic trim.

I had my new engine fitted just over a year ago all seems good so far apart for one thing. In the cold snap there we had the between -5 and -8 the exhaust system vibrates pretty bad & the tail pipe rattles against the underbody, if I pulled the tail pipe to the right it stopped the rattle engine sitting just below 750 rpm. If I keep the rev's up to anything above 900 rpm it smooth out. Once engines up to temp the vibrating settles down.
I change the engine oil every 6000 miles hope that it prolongs engine life

How are you doing with your engine replacement do you have any vibration issues?

I am on my second new engine. I’ve always managed to preempt a seizure. Using oil and/or antifreeze is one sign. Stalling is another upon starting/moving off is another, same as fluctuating revs on idle. I’ve never had any warning lights. Last time, I had the car into the dealership twice and they returned it saying they couldn’t find anything wrong. The third time they did a compression check and did find the problem.
I know some people swear by change the oil more frequently than every two years. It could be fair comment, but I don’t personally do that. I keep to the schedule. If the DPF is in effect diluting the engine oil, all your doing is putting off the fateful day. Besides I’ve know quite a few yearly or 6k oil changers that have subsequently had engine failures.
I quite like the D5 and I will keep it another 18 months, then possibly change it. I don’t need it to be reliable as it doesn’t get used daily and I’ve other forms of transport. Part of me is also keeping it out of spite to JLR. That said, I have been known to spontaneous outbursts and could simply walk into a showroom and pick up another car tomorrow if the mood takes me.
I haven’t had a problem with the exhaust, although when it was in recently, one of those complimentary health checks they do apparently revealed a mid box exhaust hanger needed replaced at a cost of £144.
It wasn’t making a noise, but I presume it might. My wife’s Land Rover did suffer a corroded exhaust heat shield needed replaced, that did rattle a bit when cold.
