Help!!! Knocking/Clunking Noise
Hi all, reaching out to the collective knowledge of this audience to help root cause a knocking/clunking noise coming from the rear of the car. The noise is most prominent when accelerating from a standstill, particularly if turning a corner. The noise appears to be coming from the offside rear, and is more noticeable when the car is in off road height. I have done a visual inspection underneath and nothing appears out of place/lose.
The car is booked into the local independent for a proper inspection, but would value any input from you guys so that I can start to prepare myself mentally for the impending bill.
Appreciate any help/guidance.

Tighten the spare wheel in the carrier.
Remove any/everything from the rear, including anything in the underfloor storage (2 row) and the spare tire kit from the storage in the boot.
Double check the battery tie downs.
Then drive it around again and see if you get the same clunking sound....

Does your car have the rear electronic locking differential?
They can clunk when pulling away, particularly when turning slightly.
I've heard multiple reports of them doing it. My previous D5 did it. The dealer did lots of investigating and flushing of the differential oil but never fixed it. I've not heard of one failing, just clunking.

Maybe a daft question - but how do I tell if it has an E-Diff?
I know it has a Central locking Diff that engages in the various off road modes, but it doesn't have a rear locking diff which I think was an optional extra. Does that mean I don't have a rear E Diff, or are all disco 5 rear Diffs, E-Diffs?

The E-Diff is an option. If you have it, you'll see it on the 4x4 info screen that shows the wheels and central diff locking/unlocking. There will be a second locking / unlocking diff shown on that diagram on the rear axle.
