Leaking Windscreen
Gutted to find water leaking in from the top of the windscreen on MY19 over the weekend.
Full LR used warranty is worthless, no callback from the dealers as yet,
Windscreen fitters quoting worst case scenario well north of 1k for a replacement,
Anybody know the percentage of windscreens that get removed & re-sealed without breaking?
I will never touch another LR again after all the hassle I’ve had with this D5

Mine didn’t break for 1.
I had mine done at home by National Windscreens, though it was still arranged and paid for by dealer after a bit of “discussion”.
The technician who did the work did warn me it could break because I had two repaired stone chips. But he also said ‘only a few ’ of the many Discovery screens he had done had cracked…if that’s any reassurance.
Fortunately, the priming layer on the glass (which was the defective part) was so bad, running the ‘wire’ around it was like a hot knife through butter. He could scrape the primer off with his thumbnail it was so badly adhered.
It was a risk having it done at home, as if it broke, the car would have been waiting for the dealer to supply a windscreen …..with no pressure on them from a car blocking their workshop.
I perhaps naively thought if the owner was standing watching, the technicians would have been more careful. I also didn’t trust the dealer and from previous experience what went on in their workshop.
They didn’t even need to recalibrate the camera after a road test.
The technician had advised getting National Windscreens to do the calibration if required (after it had been refitted and tested) …they are half the price of the LR dealer!

Hi,
I found my 22my screen leaking from the top. Contacted supplying dealer. Had to wait four weeks for them to have time to look at it. I thought this would be the day it would be repaired but all they said at the end of the day was to confirm the windscreen was leaking!
Ten days later they had arranged for a contractor to reseal screen. Phone call to say the windscreen had broken when being removed. Had to wait for four days for a new screen to arrive, then another three days for the contractor to be able to attend to fit it. Fitter then unable to attend for another three days so car was in garage for ten days.
Happy to say that in the 9 months since getting the car back there have been no further leaks!

Fingers crossed then as I’ve got it booked in with a national windscreen fitter tomorrow for a water test & a possible refit & reseal with me picking up the bill,
Dealerships rep said I could book it in for them to have a look at it & identify the leak, but water ingress ain’t covered under warranty, all they would do is notify JLR & hope they would look at it sympathetically.
But been down that route before with the dealer, no a pleasant experience in the slightest.

It cost me roughly £140 to have it resealed and LR will not look at it sympathetically.
I got onto the Executive and the answer was still an unequivocal no.

I am beginning to think my dealer wasn’t as bad as I made out.
I did have the LR extended warranty at the time and they were doing a lot of investigations with other issues. I picked up the car from the dealers on my way to a meeting. I sat down on drivers seat and felt cold, folded down the sun visor and got a “dump” of water down the front of my trousers and then realised I was sat in a puddle. I cancelled the meeting and returned to the dealers …and went ballistic, accusing them of leaving the drivers window open on the forecourt while outside their workshop.
They too told me it was a leaking windscreen and it wasn’t covered by warranty. But I pointed out it wasn’t leaking before it went up on their ramps and had technicians banging at it. They agreed to fix it as a gesture of goodwill, without referral to JLR. That’s when I said I wanted it done at my home and they agreed to that as well. Whether they would have tried to dodge the cost of a new windscreen had it broken “as it happened at my premises” we will never know.
Fortunately it came off very easily.
Hope they do the same careful job for TomThumb.

Not having much luck, needed a new screen.
Having seen the old screen & if the fitters know what they’re talking about, it looked like my screen had been out & re sealed sometime in the past, (badly)
The design of the LR screen is its downfall, the black dots around the outer edge don’t start at the top of the screen,
it has a shiny silver looking strip at the very top, something that the bonding agent has trouble sticking to.
The after market glass fitted dose not include this silver strip, so it shouldn’t ever suffer the same fate,
nor dose it carry the LR brand on the glass,
I can live with that, especially as hopefully no more leaks & Ive fallen out with all things LR any way’s.

Must be thinking that if you’ve all got decent windscreen insurance cover that “nasty stone chip” would entitle one to a new screen without spoiling your NCB?

I too have the LR extended warranty, just like you.
Mine was in for its first new engine - of poor design and guaranteed to fail, when they apparently discovered the windscreen leak washing it before handing the car back to me. The leak wasn’t present before, just like you!
Told me it wasn’t covered by the warranty, just like you, referred me to LRCS who said no and I then went to the LR executive who also said no on the basis they let me have a curtesy car longer than they should have when fitting the new engine.
Think it was with them for five weeks. Hardly my fault. I was at the tender mercies of the dealer and them fitting it into their busy schedule to fix.
So, a multi million pound international firm and their executive would rather try and save £140 for refitting a badly fitted windscreen that their factory chucked out. I dare say their weekly mineral water charge in the hallowed ground that is LRs HQ cost more than that.
That is why I will run this piece of garbage into the ground complete with LR warranty - over £1,600 annual premium last year and apparently due to go up two price rises before my next renewal this May - and be a burr in LRs side and after that never buy another thing from them!
A bunch of Wa ers! and if you’ve recently bought a LR, I pity you and you will eventually suffer like me, it’s not a case of if, it’s very definitely when. 😡
