    DIY Battery replacement rough guide.

Poor video, but shows the process clearly enough.

Once the new battery has been fitted, you'll need an IID tool or similar ODB tool to reset the BMS (Battery Management System) to reflect that a new battery has been fitted. The BMS has to relearn the new battery basically.

In my days of owning a L405 I had cause to replace the battery a couple of times. I never reset the battery module. Many other forum members on the FullFat forum didn’t either. Never had any issues.

I know Topix says to do it, but I wonder what the purpose of the rest is?

It takes 2 minutes with an IID tool or basic ODB2 diagnostic tool to reset the BMS parameters after a battery change if you have one so there's no reason not to do it...

The battery management system monitors and manages the battery to ensure it's safe operation, longevity, and optimal performance. It tracks the battery's state of charge, state of health, and temperature, while also providing protection against overcharging and overheating.

It'll still work if you don't reset the parameters after a battery change...but it won't be optimal for the replacement battery and how it works with the rest of the systems.

Besides leaving a recurring DTC fault for no reason, if the car didn't need the BMS, it wouldn't be there.
