    Trailer Stability Assist

Following a discussion regarding towing settings, I have discovered I don’t seem to have had the towing ECU activated when the JLR garage fitted my deployable towbar. At least I don’t get all the towing settings/options I should have available if this had been enabled!

Which of course means the car doesn’t know there’s a trailer attached and therefore cannot intervene or help if any trailer instability happens.

Whilst I have ATC on the caravan I tow giving some sway control, it might be nice to have the car join in if ATC cannot correct it by itself. And since it’s available why not have it switched on?

Apparently this can be enabled in the car’s configuration files. My question is….can this be accessed annd enabled from a diagnostic handset at any garage or does it need to be a JLR job? Would an Indy LandRover garage be able to do this?

Any thoughts / suggestions would be welcome. Thx

I would have thought a reputable indie with full access to JLR software to edit CCf’s can do this. The indie I used to use had such access and ability.

I recently towed our twin axle Elegance Grande for the first time and the Alko ATC worked great. I’m not sure I have TSA even though I have a factory deployable. When I was researching my first D5 purchase I did come across stories of TSA and ATC fighting each other.

Might be worth more research before activating it?

Thanks. I must admit I had concerns about a potential conflict. I’ve seen it mentioned on other vehicles but not the Discovery.

I have recently read that the ATC only operates for 2 secs after which there is a hesitation before it “tries again” if required. The TSA on the disco supposedly steps in at a “higher sway” level so doesn’t operate until the ATC is no longer effective. So much for the divided viewpoint I guess.

I have existed without if for several years so if £££s are involved I will let sleeping dogs lie.

I’ve texted my local Indy and asked the question. Interestingly he also sells and hires out trailers so he may have a view on the sense in doing this.

    Thx
