Using your CTEK charger when replacing the battery

This is a fairly well known tip amongst home mechanics, but I'll post it here for anyone who may not know and is looking to do a DIY battery replacement.

If you have a CTEK charger, MXS 7.0 or higher, you can use it to maintain a 12v supply to the vehicle during the main battery replacement process. Simply plug the CTEK into any of the 12v auxiliary sockets (cigar lighter), use a 13 pin tow socket adapter or clip it onto the jump start terminals under the bonnet using the crocodile clips.

Switch the CTEK charger into supply/maintenance mode then go ahead and replace the vehicle battery as normal.

Doing this will prevent any ECU data/settings loss during battery replacement. I'll post pictures up of the process if anyone needs them. You'll also need an IID tool or similar ODB2 diagnostic tool to reset the BMS (Battery Management System) once the battery has been replaced Thumbs Up

There are other methods of achieving the same thing... keeping a 12v supply to the car when changing the main battery... but since most Land Rover owners have (or should have) a CTEK charger, it's the simplest method to pass on Wink
