    Inner tailgate cables

Hi the inner tailgate support cable plastic coating is failing and coming off in my lads D5, has anyone else had this problem. Is there any info on stripping this down and replacing the cables please??

Found a link on here that describes stripping the tailgate trim off to access the cables...the other end of the cables will be secured behind the rear inner boot trim I'd imagine.

    Linky

3rd party LR parts stockists do replacment support cables for around £50-£60 I think. Without replacing them, a can of spray on plastic coating might do a decent job as well Wink

Hi, just an update on this as I had the plastic coating flaking off mine and jamming the cable on one side.
The cables are just spring loaded and sit in a cartridge in the inner tailgate.
They then fix on to the inner boot panel with the same type of connector that struts normally use.
If you disconnect the cable in the boot you can pull the full length out from the inner tailgate and strip the coating off.
I found running a stanley knife blade down the cable was the easiest way.
The cable itself is fine, it is just the plastic coating that breaks down.
It means they are now silver rather than black but I can live with that.
Hope this helps, it's certainly cheaper than replacing as the parts are expensive.
