Yup. K&N, Pipercross or other similar washable performance air filters have always been a good investment. K&N tend to be a bit overpriced as an alternative, but other branded performance filters like Pipercross aren't necessarily more expensive than the cost of a genuine OE paper replacement...but besides the significantly improved airflow which gives an increase in both power and torque, you only buy a performance filter once since it never needs to be discarded and replaced with every engine service like the paper OE style filters.

I fitted a Pipercross performance filter from TerraFirma in my 2017 3.0L TD6 to replace the bulky and inefficient folded paper OE air filter. It's the first thing I replace on any vehicle I've owned...did the same on the D2 and the D4.

I tend to favour Pipercross over K&N...but that's just personal taste as well as the eye watering price of K&N filters. Outside of that, there's nothing to pick between the 2 brands other than cost and availability.

Links for a couple of options below, but performance air filters are readily available from most specialist 4x4 online stores, so you might find them a couple of quid cheaper if you search around Ebay or the like. Thumbs Up

    Pipercross (TerraFirma) performance filter

Since you have the 2019 3.0L SDV6... which I think has the twin air boxes?.. I'd suggest this great quality performance filter pack from BritPart...both replacement filters supplied in the box. Unlike K&N or Pipercross, there's no pre-oiling required...just wash with detergent or blow out with air once a year.

BritPart easy clean performance filter (Pair)

Both of these options are straight replacements for the D5, just remove the OE paper filter(s) and stick the new one in. Washable or easy clean performance air filters are definitely a sensible step up from the OE paper ones...30% more airflow than a paper element as well as a lifetime guarantee so like I said, you only buy it and fit it the once.

In the case of K&N or Pipercross filters, just remove, clean and respray with additive once a year and put them back in. Wink

K&N also do washable cabin pollen filters for the D5...Like all K&N branded stuff...a bit overpriced, but again, a buy once lifetime guarantee.

You have to be careful with these. They are "high flow" yet they also mysteriously trap more dust and particulates? The latter is only true as long as you maintain them properly and don't over- or under-oil them after you clean them.

I have used them in the past and found they increased some intake noise and also the oil that coats the filter medium gets pulled through the filter. The good news is the diesel doesn't have an air flow mass sensor close to the mouth of the intake for the oil to deposit on, so you won't have to occasionally clean that off.

I've never noticed any increase in fuel economy or power in other vehicles, except in a Subaru when I replaced the standard air box with a cold air intake that had a K&N cone filter on it, but that wasn't due to the filter, it was due to the intake.

If you drive in very dusty environments, you can actually clog the filter faster, and if you get just the right amount of dust caked on the filter medium, then you will get dust passing through the less-dense filter medium into your engine because the stickyness of the filter fibers is compromised, allowing the "high flow" design to pass more fine particulates.

    Caveat emptor.

I don't think there's anywhere in the UK that dusty to be fair. We're more likely to be drowned or frozen to death than die of heat exhaustion. Laughing
