I have searched the forum but don't come up with much, so here goes.
I know the GAP iiD G4 is the go to diagnostic set up for these cars. But not actually needing to write maps ect, what are the alternatives like ?
What is the I-carsoft systems like ?
Mainly for me i will need to read and clear fault codes, reset epb when new pads are fitted, reset service indicator ect.
I have always worked on my own cars, and done my own servicing, my hands are not as good as they were but i do try do do as much as i can myself. Then leave the bigger jobs for the indi to do.
I know doing my own servicing won't be logged on the history, but my car is a 2018. I need to keep it for at least 4 years which will then make my car 11 years old, and practically worthless. So i don't think a LR service history will add any value at that point.
So what are the options out there for the OBD readers, good and bad.
Thanks for the input
I've always done all my own maintenance on my Land Rovers... since fixing 4x4's used to be my day job as a mobile fitter... I've never fussed about stamps in the service book once I've bought the things. I've no interest in selling cars on...except privately in the case of my old D2 and the D4...As for OBD2 diagnostic tools, I already had a G3 IID tool for the D4 so just upgraded it to the G4 version for the D5 through the GAP website.
I've also got an Autel maxicom for general use in the garage...for other family cars that I get dumped with doing the servicing and maintenance on.
There are a few OBD2 diagnostic tools about at all sorts of prices, Land Rover compatible ones that cover anything except for the very basics on a D5 are limited... but a decent mid range general OBD2 tool from Launch or iCarsoft will probably cover the majority of service related functions you're looking for.
Found a vid on some really good options. I've always preferred Launch, Autel or Otofix to iCarsoft, just for the operation and screens, but mid to top range from iCarsoft (CR3.0 or CRMAX) are generally a great buy, especially if you have other family cars that you occasionally look after.
Specifically for Jaguar/Land Rover, I came across This one from Kingbolen. on Amazon. At under £70, it might be a cheap single car solution...if it actually does what it says on the tin
Thanks Mole
I see you had a D2 as well. Best car i ever had was my 2003 TD5. The longest i ever kept a car too, 7 1/2 years. Only sold it on because my dad passed away and left me his range rover sport.
I will have a look through the video thank you and make my decision. As long as i can fix the basics on my disco i will be happy. My hands hurt a lot and are getting worse so i don't know how much longer i can swing the spanners. (excessive iron in my blood has damaged the joints). I look after my sons 4.0ltr 1995 jeep yj too, but that is obd 1, and so difficult to get parts for. My daughters car is still under KIA warranty for now, but she wants a classic defender 90.
Thanks again, appreciate the help
Yeah, loved my '02 plate D2...I'd agree that it was the best car I've ever owned too. Sold it just recently to a green laning enthusiast so I'm glad it's still being used for purpose. I still had pangs as the guy drove it away though.
I spent a lot of time and money on that D2 over the years making it loud and rude...that TD5 engine was just indestructible

My D2 was so reliable, the only time it saw a workshop was for MOT's, and it never had an advisory. I had and still do have the faultmate msv2. I got it for the p38 i had, then swapped it over to the D2. Pretty much useless now but was good in it's day. A god send for the p38 which was the most unreliable car on the planet.
