Wing mirror theft
Took delivery of a brand new L462 last month. Left car parked in a public area this afternoon and returned to find that my driver's mirror had been ripped out including cutting the wires that connected the housing to the mirror (for heating, proximity warning etc. I guess). Camera still works and mirror folds. Am gutted!
Has anyone else experienced this? I can't find replacement parts on-line so I'll have to contact the dealer on Monday. It looks like I will have to replace more than just the glass mirror as the thieves cut the wires and took the connectors. I am sure that the part will cost a fortune but is it a DIY job to fit a new unit? Any advice appreciated.

You'll probably have to replace the complete unit. Besides that, they're readily available second hand, it's can certainly be done DIY. It's not a difficult job...
Found a couple of second hand units on eBay...official replacements from LR are a ridiculous price. With a second hand unit, you'd just need to pop your mirror cap off and clip it onto the replacement.

There are more around so have a scoot around eBay or second hand parts dealers...even a visit to a local scrappie can turn up wonders

Sounds like you’ve suffered a “stolen to order” theft. Somebody, somewhere has a damaged D5 and needed a door mirror. Boils your blood but what can you do?
I changed the standard mirrors on my D4 for the upgraded type that include the indicator, there was at least a couple of substantial bolts holding them to the door. Presuming the D5’s are similar, that stolen mirror must have been damaged ripping it off.🤷🏻♂️

From the description, it sounds like the glass was nicked out of the mirror rather than the whole mirror assembly being ripped off.
Still makes the blood boil

It reads like they’ve taken the whole lot to me.😂😂
Daughter had a similar thing happen to her Merc, thieves stole the drivers door mirror glass. Can only presume the thieves have the same vehicle.

They just took the mirror. Pulled it off and cut the wires connecting it so the plugs went as well. Because the wires were cut and not just unplugged then the whole casing has to be replaced as well. How does the mirror come off? Is it just pulled or are there tabs that need a special tool to release it?

If it’s anything like the D3 and D4, remove the door card and this should reveal the bolts to remove to release the housing.

You are correct and there are a number of youtube videos showing how. But I just want to remove the wing mirror glass not the complete housing as well. I don't know if the mirror glass just clips off?

Yes, it just clips in, that’s how the thief managed to steal it.
You got unlucky with them cutting the wires instead of unplugging the glass.
Buy a replacement glass, it’ll then become clear how it goes back in.
