    Wooden trim removal?

Has anybody removed the wooden trims along the dash or door cards? I’m sick of driving a grandfather clock so thought I’d attempt to “carbon wrap” the wooden trims. I’ve not done any part wrapping before but it looks simple enough if you can get the part removed, it can’t be rocket science.

Has anybody any experience of removing any of the door trims or dash wooden bits?
This link shows a door card without the wooden trims fitted and it looks like they screw on from the back but it’s not the clearest image. https://ebay.us/m/RfTsjr
Somebody must have done this surely and what about removing the dash trims, has anybody done this and can advise a starting point?

I'm planning to take my drivers door card off over the next few days to investigate an annoying tinny rattle when I close the door...I suspect it's the regulator cables vibrating against something...but it's getting on my nerves. Shutting the door sounds like a transit van rather than a posh Land Rover.

Anyhoo...I'll investigate that wooden trim panel removal process and post up pics from what I find. From those eBay images, it looks like 5 screw holes in the door card section securing that wooden trim piece on from the back. There may be a plastic panel or something similar to pop off from the reverse side of the door card to access the screws...I'll have a look. Thumbs Up

The dashboard trim...it's likely to be long winded and a case of removing the entire dash to get at the screws...knowing Land Rover Neutral

I found a door trim strip for sale on eBay which shows the reverse side...looks like the trim strip is in 2 parts and fitted to the door panel.

    Door trim strip

It might help show the fitment...looks like only 2 rather large screw/bolt holes that secure the entire 2 part section to the door panel with the actual wood/plastic trim section being screwed onto that with the 5 little torx screws.

Anyway...I'll have a closer look at mine when I take the door card off.

Great minds thinking alike here, I too noticed that listing.😜
The more I study this, the more I’m convinced the door card trims are just screwed in place but I’ll wait for your confirmation. I think it’s gonna be the dash trims that prove to be tricky as I can’t see anywhere to start attacking these yet.

My trims are dark walnut...they kinda blend in, or at least sufficiently enough so that I don't notice them...

I'd prefer piano black trims like my D4...but I'm certainly not forking out either Land Rover... or even eBay scrappie prices... to replace mine. If I got desperate enough, I'd prep them with an alcohol based cleaner and brush over them carefully with a black ash or ebony wood dye.

    Hi Mole HD

Would it not be possible to use a gloss black vinyl wrap to achieve the piano black look you are after as it could be done without the need to remove the trims.

That would indeed be an option, sudds...but I really don't mind the dark walnut wood trim on mine. It's not garish or fake looking so it's not high on my list of strictly aesthetic interior fittings that urgently need changing.

I'll see how I feel after looking at it for another year or two Laughing

I've changed the rotary AC knobs for blue anodized aluminium ones (the original ones were a bit worn and tatty)...and changed the door card puddle lights and footwell lights for blue LED units. I also fitted sporty looking aluminium brake and accelerator pedal covers...but as for interior furnishings and fittings, I've not done much else. Most of my aesthetic efforts have been on sticking black plastic bits to the outside thus far...

That’s what I’ll be doing but with carbon wrap. Removing the trims will make this much simpler.
I think the doors will be easy once the door cards are off, it’s the dash trims that might be difficult.
Gotta be honest, whoever thought doing these trims in hard wood finish must be living in the past, or driving his own grand father clock.🙄

Even back in the 60's and 70's when wooden bits inside the posher cars was all the rage...it always made me think of the Flintstones.

My dad's 1961 Jag Mk2 he had when I was a nipper had a wooden steering wheel. Back then, he always said it was better than having your hands freeze onto a bakelite steering wheel in the winter Laughing

Nowadays...the outdated ideas behind the inclusion of wood in car interior design smacks of luxury in the same way as a set of furry seat covers and brown leather Paddy Hopkirk driving gloves. Whistle

I was looking at Volvo xc90s for sale last week. Out of 10 possibles in terms of mechanical spec, mileage, price and external appearance….. 8 had hideous wood effect trim that wasn’t even subtle.

    Then there were 2.
