Devastated but time to say Goodbye

Totally gutted after less than 1 year of ownership ive had to sell the Disco on to a company that buy broken cars, in November it started to make a knocking noise, i sent it to a land rover specialist who said it sound like top end and also bottom end, took the rocker off and the cam chain tensioner had broken leading to the small cam chain slapping about, on further investigation they found that the engine had been out, new non genuine heads fitted with non genuine parts, my warranty company will only pay for the broken parts the cost to take the engine out to see if its crank or bearings is too expensive based on the warranty only covering broken parts.

To say I'm gutted is an understatement the company buying it have offered £7500 its better than nothing but with the bill for works done so far ill clear about £4k.

When i bought the car i did all the checks and tricked all the boxes, 1 owner from new, full main dealer service history, low milage, i couldn't have done much more,

It took me a while to gell with the car coming from a full fat Range Rover but just as i did this happened,

To try to recoup some of my costs ill be listing the following parts for sale once i have photographed them.

Set of 5 Defender Alloys with delivery milage Scorpion all season (fitted in September)

    full set of carpet mats,

    genuine landrover quilted boot liner

Thule aero roof bars and keys

and anything else i can fine ive got to recoup some of the £16+K loss

So the previous owner has not been truthful and had the engine repaired with non genuine parts. What was the milage?

Gutted for you and I get what Beno is suggesting but in reality what exactly had the previous owner been un truthful about? Its a game we all play. Buy private is always a lottery (just done it myself last summer) and the main draw is cost saving but basically at the expense of any support when things go sideways.

Again, gutted for you. Every cloud has a silver lining.

What he has been untruthful about is that he is saying it was full main dealer service history. Iam sure they don't fit non LR Parts. I suppose checking on the LR service system would reveal everything about the vehicle history

I see your point but If JLR did fit dodgy parts still unsure where falsehoods arise on the owners part unless for some strange reason he knew that. I suspect work outside normal servicing was discreetly forgotten at point of sale - something one can never really proove.

I agree, JLR would not normally use non OEM stuff but… my Son used to work for a JLR MD and still talks with his old colleagues. Apparently since the cyber attack, use of non OEM is not a rare thing at present.

    Caveat emptor as they say.
